So, I am now in a job where they insist that we park in the services with no problems with paying for the with food ticket, I know the food hasn’t always been the best in the services, but was well fed with with cooked to order fish and chips the other Friday at the Harvester in Donnington Park services, nice big lump of fish and tasty chips even though i’m not a big chip fan, with mushy peas and a pot of tartar sauce, also had a coffee which had free refills, I did have to pay an extra £1.50 ish out of my own money with the £9 meal voucher, but was money well spent, and spent an hour or so sat in there waiting and eating said food away from the cab, i must say the food was far better than the fish and chips I had at harry ramsdens at leicester forrest the previous week.
The other option was, which seemed to be what most drivers went for, was a £9 bag of junk food from burger king eaten in the cab, which was the last thing i wanted to eat and do.
Lockerbie truck stop very good and your £9 will get you a lot as parking is £12 food voucher is £5 so you’ve got £4 extra to play with and get a good nights sleep

When i did nights out the last couple of years they insisted on MSA or similar parking, they paid the full price incl meal voucher but i tried to use that for a bit of breakfast which even they can’t ruin that much and sought proper food elsewhere.
So where possible i would try to park within walking distance of a pub likely to offer food, which has the added benefit of taking a stroll and putting on some clothes that normal human beings might wear, and getting away from the lorry for the evening, having a pint or two and relaxing well away from the sound and smells of bloody traffic/fridges/engines/air brakes/slipped clutches and trucker talk.
Not the best services but Cardiff Gate has a Toby/Harvester (can’t recall which) within 100 yards of the lorry park.
Whenever i’d get South Wales on that job CG would usually be my destination, unless i fancied B&B’ing it for the night which i would regularly.

Not a MSA, neither is Stockyard.
Had fish qnd chips from harry ramsden at birchanger green a few months ago,and really enjoyed it.
My mate reckons the harry ramsden breakfast is good at hopwood park…but i’ve never tried one.
I’ll use the noodle bar at strensham north.

Used it myself.
Sarn park (when it reopens)walk round the back of the motel…over the footbridge, turn right at the end of the road and there’s a pub on the right.
I recommend the curries.
Use your voucher elsewhere

I’d give up driving if I had to spend every night on a services. Soul destroying fridge ridden places. We have to have secure parking when loaded but this can be a services, or any other recognised lorry park, don’t even necessarily have to pay, if it’s one of the few free ones that are still left.
I stopped for a 45 on Ferrybridge the other day, what a dreadful place. To think that folk pay £20+ or whatever it is these days beggars belief, I can’t remember the last time I put in a £20 parking “bill” for the entire week.
