Motorway Screens

Anything that helps to stop rubbernecking is good as far as I’m concerned, they’ve been trialled on UK roads and found to work so I don’t see a problem.

The cost does seem excessive though :open_mouth:

Why dont they just build a 4ft wall as a central reservation?? On some re surfaced stretches of motorway they have the thick 2ft central reservations now so why not go a couple of feet higher and completly block off the view to the oppostite carraigeway■■?

Totally agree with Farnboro Boy, another foot on concrete central reserves will stop rubberneckers but the but type screens can be used to screen of a scene and open a lane past it, which is not possible at the minute or with the old screens that had to be fixed to central barrier.

I think this is more like it;

As above, all the new concrete barriers bit of top soil in the top and a hedge. Stops any rubbernecking from opposite carriageway! One of the few things the French have got right!

Hiya is that with VAT or before VAT…huuummmmmmm

then probably yes
So have they been sat in some yard somewhere moth balled and near 12 months older  ,
, and the contractors were deploying them :unamused:

Motorway screens bid to stop rubbernecking by motorists - BBC News

Not sure if this has been posted before, soz if it has!!

About time, seen them in Europe before now, hopefully will stop all the folk who want to take photos of a accident and keep the roads moving interesting part about the Dft’s CLEAR initiative!

£2.3 million seems a lot though!

Dave

I’ve seen them being used on A1 near Newcastle few years ago…

They might not work but I can sure as hell see lot of people arguing on the other carriegeway about how much each one cost just tell someone they cost £766 each and thats it the wait will be less boring .

In my opinion, they’re of a crappy design and will take quite a while to put up - putting blocks down, then the fences … sorry, screens…

By which time the traffic will have ground to a halt anyway, the damage is done.

Why not just have something on the back of a truck, pull a bar out, stick it in the ground, drive around the incident, and then just stretch it and re-inforce it around. 2 mins max.

been saying exactly that for years like a 6ft tension roller blind on its end …connect it to another vehicle and Bobs your aunty

as soon as the accident occurs, the traffic on the opposite carriageway will come to a halt.it`s just another ill thought up scheme, that is trying to achieve the impossible…and also another indicator, that the people who are actually making the decisions concerning our roads are badly out of touch with reality

Funny, a few years ago when the M5 was shut for hours due to a jumper, you all moaned and said we should have something to shield it so the South bound could keep flowing. Short memories.

so you reckon screens will keep the opposite carriageway flowing
