i can’t see a problem with parking on the hard shoulder.
but i can see a problem with being charged £22.50 to go to sleep.

And I suppose you make your wife (if you have one) walk 2 paces behind you as well. Thats when she’s not chained to your sink of course. If you’d have said that to my wife you’d be wearing the sink. Its comments like that, no matter how flippant, that gives the general public the perception that we are all knuckledragging neanderthals. We’ve moved on from the 1950’s and 60’s mate

that’s the way to do it. but only after she has got up off her knees.

Thank you - at least there is one gentleman out there. I wonder if he would have the b…s to tell a lady truck driver ‘get back to your sink - you haven’t a clue’■■? We are all equals whether he likes it or not…
But you are not a lady truck driver. You are one of these silly bints who sits in the passgenger seat needing the loo every five minutes. Then you put some hysteric post up about a couple of lorries parked on the hard shoulder questioning the driving standards of everyone who is not driving a UK registered lorry.
Now, what I meant to say was you know nothing about the job. Now go back to your sink.

Oooh, I’m not sure the lady truckers would be happy to aspire to being only EQUAL to the men…
Coat, Hat…

Well, you have certainly proved what an ignorant person you are - you really have no idea at all about the haulage industry, the trials and tribulations (sorry is that too big a word for you). For your information - I am a director of a haulage company. And to be quite honest I will not waste any more of my time on the likes of you, as from what I can ascertain from your quotes, you are not an owner driver, but a driver who is quite happy to take your weekly wage, but not prepared to fight to make things equal for the haulage industry. I am sure if your boss read your comments, she (oh sorry you couldn’t possibly work for a woman), would be horrified at your chauvinistic attitude.
Now be a good boy and stop being so petty.
im afraid the lady drivers are an embarrassment to the male drivers. i was stood next to one at tescos RDC in livingston waiting for paperwork and someone came up and asked her if she was being dealt with. she said ‘(cant remember name) is doing me, he likes doing me’ and i burst out laughing. of course she acts all innocent and makes me look a right ■■■
I think if a few Eastern European trucks parked on the hard shoulder makes you this angry, then I would hate to see you at the end of the day with all the other happenings on the UK road network. As I see it the UK is very price driven, everything is very cheap in electrical, white goods, you know consumer items. While the UK public still wants everything as cheap as possible, then manufacture has to go elsewhere and often East. Transport is an expensive business in the UK, its less expensive in the East for the same job, its a no brainer. If they are going to be in your country for the long term future, then its probably better to look at the other side of the story. Why get stressed about it all the time, there are here and nobody cares as long as the new TV is bigger and cheaper than the last, okay only UK truck drivers care, but then your government does nothing to help you and the public hate you anyway, so you are stuffed.
These chaps are more than likely park on the hard shoulder for a very good reason, they cannot afford £20 plus period. Its quite possible thats half a days wonga. Its out of their league and I don’t think they have the same conditions as Westerns have, I have had a few looks at jobs here in Poland, the benefits package is an empty page by and large. Its not as if they get much for such an amount, I could get a hotel, meal and drinks for me and the wife for that kind of money in PL. When I drive back to the UK I never stop for anything, food comes with me, not because I think the food is bad here, it priced out of my league. Also as pointed out in many other countries you can park like that as the norm, so that and price is my answer.

I understand exactly what you are saying in so much that the majority of consumers want a good deal, i.e., cheaper white goods. But that is irrelavant to my post. The point I am making is ‘why do these vehicles stop for their 45 minute breaks on the hard shoulder of the motorway’? I am not talking about overnight parking. I agree that the charges levied for same are extortionate.
They are breaking EU laws - and lets face it, as I said earlier - if the emergency vehicles need access to the motorway - by them parking here makes it impossible…

What EU laws are they breaking? They are stopping for their required break under EU law it seems.

If you would care to look at the Highways Agency web-site - it clearly stipulates - the hard shoulder of a motorway is for emergency use only - this is something advised to you in the highway code when you learn to drive a car also.
If you park on the hard shoulder - you can be liable to a fine (in 2007 it was £30) - and if you are caught driving on the hard shoulder it is a fine (in 2007 £60) with 3 points on your licence.
So a 45 minute break on a service area (free for 2 hours), surely that is cheaper…

Indeed, but that isn’t EU law now is it? That would be UK law.
irrespective of the squabbling over ‘technicalities’ ( ), it is stupid, irresponsible, illegal and the vast majority of them are foreign drivers

Sorry misunderstood a bit then. I think then perhaps its just where they end up when a break is required, it not as if you have rest areas a plenty, I guess they get caught out especially with the high levels of slow moving traffic. I doubt they are breaking an EU law doing it, just a UK one. Emergency services fair comment, but you have a normal police force and even another for motorways, surely they should be pointing errors out between them. My point about consumer electrics and so forth is completely relevant, that is why your complaining, they are here for a reason for you to get angry about.
It will not change, this is it, no one will help you, you have to do something yourself, make a stand, but if the sum of this is to complain about it on a web forum, then accept it, they do the same job cheaper. You would impress me if you took your truck to Westminster and cause a bit of bother.

Well, Drew 90% of what you say, I will agree with. However, if the playing field was level, we would be able to compete with EE hauliers. i.e., road tax, derv price, wages etc., etc.,
Who knows maybe you will see me in parliament one day…fighting the cause
Top post lads & lasses. I haven’t laughed so much in ages.
It’s interesting to see Marina getting all high & mighty with Breaker One-Nine, after her rather childish and disrespectful comment about TNT.
Incidentally, I don’t work for TNT, but I know a number of decent lads who do, and some are regulars on here.
By the way, Marina, Breaker One Nine is obviously winding you up to get a reaction, and it’s working. Rise above it, oh and by the way, the feminist crap is wearing a bit thin now.

The reason behind the comment on TNT - is that I used to work for a co. that used them for their UK/EU parcels - and the warehouse lads were always moaning and gave them that name - sorry it just sticks in your mind… anyway my husband used to work for ‘drop it - hide it-loose it’
I am not a feminist - far from it - maybe you should have read his comments before criticising me…I just tell it as it is…
