i’m staggered at the amount of people who think it’s the overtakee’s responsibility to prevent the elephant race.
Don’t get me wrong, I generally back off if someone is struggling to get past (he shouldn’t have attempted the overtake in the first place)…but I certainly shouldn’t be expected to. The overtaker has made the move, it’s their responsibility to make it work!

+1
I don’t attempt to overtake unless I can comfortably get past.
I just wish I knew why we’re limited to 56mph, when the motorway limit is 60, and 70 for a 7.5 tonner.
I remember driving an 80’s D series 7.5, that would do 80mph unladen. I kid you not.
Since then engines are far more powerful and ecomical, the trucks handle and stop far better.
That wasn’t a rant, just an observation.
My rant is if there’s so many bloody roadworks, 40 & 50 mph, meaning we can’t get anywhere as quickly as we should, why don’t we get 10% added to our driving hours. The same amount of stuff still needs to get to the same amount of places, on the same number of vehicles.

Here endeth the rant.
Because they allow 4mph for over run, otherwise on every slightest little down hill gradient you would be speeding.
And if you add more hours to driving time then they will plan more loads… Even if you was allowed to run 12 hours a day then there will still be stuff that doesn’t get done. It’s a chasing game and the game is always in front.

It because it was set for the whole EU and not just the UK.

Exactly… and if you don’t run on the limiter, you’ve got that little bit extra to make it work.

I see, what is the maximum speed limit on European motorways, 96kmh?, does it vary in each country?
Depends on the circumstances for me. The limiter is set at 89kph. Sometimes I’ll do 87 and sometimes I’ll keep it on the limiter. I usually back off if another trucker is creeping up but not if there’s a few in tow. If I can’t get past a truck in front I’ll just drop back a bit, can usually get past 90% of things on the hills as the trucks/loads average about 25-30 ton (unless it’s a double decker).
I’m shocked at the amount of drivers stating that they find it less stressful running off the limiter. Seriously, does overtaking stress you out ? Do you reach for the Prosac if there are no red Jelly babies in your freshly opened bag? man the [zb] up and get your foot down!
the maoster:
I left the Stockyard this morning and three hours later pulled into Longbenton, but because of all the stop start traffic north of Durham my tacho read 3h 50 m driving! There’s no way to recoup that sort of loss.
Care to do a printout and post a piccie of that bit here? I understand the mechanism by which digi tachos record a small amount of “driving” time when the wheels are not actually turning, but TTBOMK they cannot record more time as “driving” than has actually passed!

‘Red Jelly Babies’ I prefer the Black Ones.
Worst part of driving is- the Mrs doesn’t drive, do she always gets 1st Dibs on the Black Ones & I end up with the Yellow Ones.
Why can’t they do packets of All Black Jelly Babies ?

They do rack the driving time up if you’re queuing 2 minutes for every half a revolution of the wheel I’ve been informed.
My point being that yes, the earlier digi tachos did record time spent stationary as “driving” - but in doing so they record less “other work”. What appears to be being claimed here is that the poster left the yard at say, 5am and arrived at his destination at 8am but with 3h50m driving time recorded! As I understand the way they work that cannot happen.
One possible explanation might be that he left his card in the tacho overnight with 50 minutes of driving time already showing from the previous day? But a printout should show what has happened.
isnt it great working for the paddys where clocks reads 56mph,and your cruising at 62■■..on the rule that the ferrys dont wait, and im on trip money, then it has to be a logic of keep the metal to the pedal, and the thing to the floor works well for me.miss a ferry and miss my bed, theres definately more fun to be had on the wire. i did try working for tesco sainsburys etc with an agency once, but couldnt take the (leave your brain in the car,and pick it up again when your shifts done approach).its hard enough trying to pass the time for a 9 hour break unless your clean wrecked, never mind an 11. each to their own?? anyone else have a similar approach to making their wages,or am i the only hooligan on here?ive always found it easier sleeping when it suits me,instead of when the clock dictates.
