MOTO Service stations charging for showers

I happened to notice this aft that the MOTO service station at Blyth on the A1 has started to charge £3 for a shower unless money has been spent in the shop, on parking or at the petrol station. I asked the lass if that included lorry drivers and she said yes it does.

I do not know if this is MOTO across the board or just Blyth, maybe someone else has noticed this. Thats another chain I won’t be using again.

Think its only the ones which aren’t actually on the motorway. i.e don’t have their own slip road like blyth and wetherby. The ones on the motorway have to provide them free by law i think.

I reckon its reasonable IF they are cleaned after each person has used them, the state some people leave them is disgusting, I am betting they don’t though - sadly.

I had this in Blyth a few months ago, I’d has a busy day but was rather clean, I didn’t fancy having a shower and sweating all night in the cab (it was about 30 deg c) so I decided to go straight to sleep and shower when I got up.
I was asked for £3, I said so doesn’t my parking get me a free shower and she made me show her a receipt.

I’m not sure that MOTO are quite as upset as you.

Perhaps you should invite the entire staff of MOTO to bathe at your home while you bathe at their facilities, after all, what is £3 amongst friends?

Did you try asking for the key? Never had to pay yet! I think it may be to discourage our European friends or the caravan dwelling sorts from abusing the facility. Most of the staff couldn’t care less anyway!!

Also I wouldn’t mind if it was a decent shower paying for it but Blyth’s are ■■■■! Weatherby is the best I’ve been in, followed by Hopwood. I can understand why though, there left in a right mess by some people, and why provide and maintain showers for the driver to then go park in the layby 500 meters down the road?

Decent showers are the MOST important thing for me when looking to park up for the night, I even went out my way at Weatherby services to say how impressed I was with them, they were immaculate! Hopwood was just as good apart from one of the lights had a blown bulb.

I think the charge is fair, if you Park and pay it’s free, if you eat it’s free, if you buy a copy of a tanker magazine, it’s free…

I really can’t see the problem, they are a business after all. I just hope the money is put to good use like maintaining the facilities

Grantham tried the same thing with me a couple of wks ago, I wasn’t overnighting there but when asked if I was eating or stopping overnight I simply said yes but having a shower before I sit down to eat anything…I duels showered, gave the key back & left without buying anything !!

Not experienced this at any other Moto sites.

& just to add most places should pay us to use the showers as in my experience most are just a bloody disgrace !!

I parked at Sarn services near Bridgend last nite although they don’t have showers if u go down the the hotel they allow you to use one of the rooms for a shower

I paid for showers in Germany this week. Both were spotless, one was a slight improvement on a dripping tap. The other at Hamburg Sud, was fantastic. The pressure almost took a layer of skin off.

This all started about 16 month ago when Wetherby services tried charging you a fiver to keep yourself clean if you weren’t parking up for the night and a Facebook page was set up to boycot it. All Moto dervishes have the sign up saying you must pay 3 pound or get so many litres of fuel on the shower doors, I was at Tamworth the other night and saw one. Most of them though have the door unlocked. It ain’t just the drivers that leave them in a state. Our chums from Ireland with caravans usually use the services for a shower and I have seen 3 kids come out the shower at Wetherby before :unamused:

i called in blyth on monday teatime thanks to some driver before he had left the padlock open so got in for free.if i have to pay ill leave it open.i do not agree with paying for it when for years we never did.also heard that the new ones on toddington are locked but every time ive gone in found one open.plus heard that when one driver went in to pay the cashier gave him the key for free.saying u guys keep the country supplied in goods and food for all to live so why should u pay for showers or even pay for parking.so ill give u the key for free but for parking thats no in my hands he said.
so if u do have to pay leave it open for other to use for free.im sure that if u turn up again another day it will be open when u check.

Most facories,RDC’s and transport depots have a shower.I ask to use and never been refused.Michael Wood Msa is free at the moment.
