well it passed mot cost about 300 for repairs plus mot fee can i drive car if i buy car tax on line i am not too sure ?any help please
Yes, if the car is registered in your name.
If you mean can you drive while tax is in the post, I don’t think so;
I used to be a mechanic and got roped into fixing/modifying my brother’s car at weekends quite often, I’d done something or other to his car one day and decided to take it for a spin to check whatever I’d done. I only got about 300yds when plod pulls me over and explains that I have no tax DOH! Went through all my details; R.W-----, 15/12/198* & address. Then my brother’s; R.W-----, 15/12/198* & same address
DON’T GET FUNNY WITH ME SON! says mr plod
Erm, no, we’re twins living at the same address with the same first initial OH! sorry
Anyway, got a £60 fine and went home to find a tax disc that he’d got on the way home from work the day before
The actual offence is something like failure to display a valid tax disc.
Edit, sounds like that’s out of date now, also altered details I maybe shouldn’t have put on here.
No is the easy answer.
You are under some circumstances permitted to drive the vehicle without displaying your new tax disc for up to 5 days from the end of the month in which the tax expires, however you must have made an application/bought tax prior to the last valid tax disc expiring.

Think they give you a week while you can use the vehicle (check with DVLA) for it to arrive via the post and then be displayed in the screen. After all they (Dibble) can check with DVLA Swansea that you have taxed it. But as has been said above the car needs to be registered (V5-Loogbbok)) in your name and also has to be insured, they can check this too on the national insurance data base If you aint got all this in place mate its the good all fashioned Post Office on pension day!
You are allowed 5 days to display the tax disc ( new ruling ) & in my experience of taxing online you normally get it back within that time.

The recent change which allows 5 days exemption only applies to the first 5 working days of the month and only when you have applied before the old disc ran out. You must also continue to display the old disc until the new one arrives in that situation.
As none of that applies in your case you cannot legally drive the vehicle until the new disc arrives. If you want to drive it without waiting you will have to go to a post office or DVLA office with your documents. It may also be a couple of days before you can do it online anyway depending how quick the MOT place are at uploading the pass details.

This it what i told you …
Maybe you just baffled the copper and he couldn’t take any more Good ovening
People been talking [zb] you buy it you got it.
If buying a continuing tax disc on line the email you recieve at the point of purchase is as good as the tax disc
My daughter renewed on line and had not recieved the tax disc 3 weeks later when pulled, the copper was going for failure to display, and I stepped in saying we can not display something we had not recieved, Dvla confirmed the vehicle was taxed end of, and the disc arrived 2 days later.
