MOT Exemptions on Older Commercial Vehicles

Can anybody please tell me the situation in the UK as regards MOT testing older commercial vehicles. Is there an exemption over a certain age/weight? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know it is pre 1960 ■■?, But Crowbar will be able to say for sure if this is correct, Regards Larry.

Not only does a pre-1960 goods vehicle not require an MOT, as long as it is
unladen, it can be driven on an ordinary car licence.
Like any other road going vehicle which is exempt from testing, it must still be
roadworthy to MOT standards.

Regards,
Nick.

Much obliged Gentlemen…Thank you for the information…

Hi, a little clarification, the answers above are nearly correct, but no cigar! At the moment, the exemption for pre-1960 goods vehicles only applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross, anything under that still needs an MOT. Under the new rule recently announced all pre-1960 motor vehicles will be exempt, but the new rule publicised recently hasn’t come into force yet, I believe it takes effect on 18th November.
