Trying to flog a dodgy motor doze??
:grimacing:

I don’t know about dodgy rob it just cost me £617 to mot / service it and that was with a Vauxhall discount of 25 % off the original bill ( painfull)
They then said when changing plugs they’d noticed rust in coil pack & it would go sooner or later ( £225 apparently ) , 4 th coil pack in 47 , 000 miles ( I said leave it ) , 3 springs are apparently rusty , it has 2 small holes in exhaust that girl said would effect emmisions ( how did it manage to pass mot with 2 holes in exhaust , and apparently the 2 back tyres which are 3 yrs old are apparently splitting on side wall though I can’t see anything
They’ve been a really good garage but they I believe are trying to make there customers pay for the loss of earnings from being shut with covid
So need a 5 door so was going to change it anyway , car runs fine , but I guess after reading the crap they’ve wrote down it will cost me a big hit on p/x what 8 yr old car hasn’t got rusty springs , car runs fine but they put coil pack is rusty
I had my mrs car serviced , The ford dealer we’ve always gone to , £335 , I took it to another small ford dealer who even did a video of checks , explained everything , £201 !!!
How can there be a £135 difference from 1 ford dealer to another for the same service , why am I being asked to pay £225 for a coil pack that Is obviously a faulty part , 4 th one in £47,000 miles
This is all bad enough but then the daughter decides her car is 4 yrs old & done 30 k so dad needs to buy her a brand new Nissan quashqui, as if I’m not hemoriging enough money as it is , why does she need a quashqui as there’s only her , boyfriend & a cat , and mrs only I nput is not to say to her daughter , hang on dads spent £800 on cars this week , no her input is I prefer the Kia Sportage
Makes you wonder , I said for what I do 6/7 k is enough for a car , daughter thinks £25/30 k is fine when dads paying & not her & that boyfriend of hers ( not that she’ll be getting a 20k + car

toffs can be careless when they are making £1000 per week…no drama there.

Being slightly serious, perished tyres is the new MOT scam. Plenty of tread, no cuts, no serious scuffs but your tyres are 6 or 8 years old, it fails, so you either take it away or accept the dealers tyre prices, you take it somewhere else and it goes on the computer, its last failure is pointed out to the examiner without him licking his red pen, you don’t even need to visit the garage, just by booking it in they are wise to the fact they can sell you some tyres.

The moral here is - don’t get your MOT done anywhere that does repairs as well, they’ll always assume you know sod all about mechanical matters and find something that ‘needs to be fixed urgently’. And if you genuinely do need some work done, if you can’t do it yourself, go to somewhere cheap and cheerful that’s been trading for decades, and whose premises are modest and paid for. Who do you think pays to keep millions of watts of lights burning 24-7 at the big shiny dealerships?

It passed didn’t it. Would you rather know what potential faults there are with it or carry on in ignorance until something happens? AFAI can see all they have doen is let you know what they have found and given you an idea of the cost of the parts. Seems reasonable enough to me. As for the coil pack if you dig out old bills you might get some concession if it is a known problem with the vehicle type.

Dealers set their own labour rates the smaller the outfit the cheaper it is likely to be.

That’s fairly common doze, the dealership my lad runs charges around 70 per hour + vat, the one in the city 13 miles away charges 130 + vat…go figure.

Never forget, if it’s got ■■■■ or wheels it is going to cost.

Or as an old mate of mine would say - “BOAT = Boat Out, Another Thousand £”.

As someone who’s incessant need for speed brought me to playing with boats (check out Zapcat videos on YouTube) I can confirm that boats are merely a hole in the water into which you throw money. :imp:

Omg, It’s another Friday drama.

I know it was posted on Monday, but it’s Friday today.

Hell Doze, have you explained to daughter/wife/anyone else on the list, that you ain’t a bloody footballer on £250k a week (well until the fans don’t return, ever, being utterly disgusted at them virtue signalling the latest craze by wearing political labels and kneeling) and in fact you’re a working class bod and your available income is that of said WCB, and if they want a new cloned soft roader with a design life of 7 years they can bloody work or work a bit harder and buy it themselves.

Have a long hard look in the mirror mate and tell the bod looking back to wake up, the world has changed, anyone ■■■■■■■ money up the wall on new cars when the economic and political world is about to shift massively in the wrong direction had better have a rethink.

Was this at Quick-Fit-Up or Hell Frauds?

Get your MOT done at an official testing station that cannot do the work… That way, you know they’ll do a fair test, and only fail it on stuff that isn’t to their financial advantage, especially if it is a “no pass, no fee” deal as well. :bulb:

I always thought that “wheels down” meant it was about to get going, whereas “■■■■ Up” meant

f…in’ f…ed - bigtime

place i used to work we had the use of the garage, pit, and spanner man to help when needed.not anymore, and i don’t have the time/can’t be arsed to crawl underneath anymore,so entrust servicing and mot’s to an old acquaintance who owns a small local garage.last month had my 05 plate Focus service and MoT…£110 for a new spring,£90 labour and oil, filters etc,MoT £50. total £250.
got youngest daughters Megane in same place later this month.told her she could borrow my Triumph Herald whilst her car is in for test…she said she sooner walk
