Most relaxed companies to work for

the maoster:
I reckon that a lot of firms treat individual drivers differently according to past results. It’s always been my experience that what to T O really want is a kind of “fire and forget” driver, the type that does the job in a reasonable timeframe, doesn’t upset anyone along the way and doesn’t damage anything along the way either.

Exactly that.Generally a boss wants only two things, someone that doesn’t question them, and someone they can give the work to and they don’t hear from them again until it’s done.
My company work you hard,to the point if you last a year you get a grand in bonus, but they never ring me unless there’s a change to the run sheet so I’m left to get on with it and do the run sheet in the order I choose. So it evens itself out. Plus as a new driver, they gave me a start
I was chatting to a skip driver some years ago and he was given 6 minutes per skip. If he took longer they were on the fone wanting to know why. No thank you.

I work for one of the smaller multi drop company in the Midlands area, unless theres a big problem with a customers order or a break down, i don’t hear off the office or tele sales all day, get my paperwork which is waiting for me on the desk when i get in, go off do the deliveries and come back and put the signed paperwork along with any monies into the safe and go home, its grand

Makes no difference who you work for
When you have Drivers or “Drovers”, like most Companies large or small, keen to score “brownie points” snivelling upto the Traffic Office Clerk trying to show how clever they are so they get the “cream” runs,or nice motor
It puts pressure on other Drivers doing the job properly, because the TC will be put under pressure from the TM who will only say things like “Tear Arse Terry” does it or “Brown Nose Bill” does it why can`t the rest

Our transport office is manned from 06:30-15:30, on the dot… Pretty much says how often we get pestered on nights! W/hse supervisor will text me occasionally asking me to ‘see if I can get a 100 odd empty Blues’ but that’s it

If you’re weak, they’ll have your pants down.

We have Bill and Terry at our place  .
Bill done a few drops around Devon same day as me, he teararsed round them all, got last one off at 7pm.
(I had one left on for morning, not dragging it out btw, but done at a safe sensible pace.)
He rang ME ( :open_mouth: )to say he was tipped (Don’t ask me why, trying to make a point I suppose…like I cared :unamused: )
He then said ‘‘Huh, got all 6 off in the day, rang in and not even a thank you off ****** the boss’’
I said ‘’ do you need a thank you, and wtf did you expect exactly’’ :unamused:
Anyway he was sent to do a crap job, load Bristol tip Leeds, re. load and back home Sat am.
I tipped next morning, loaded directly for home, and I got back before our old mate ‘‘Bill’’ so who’s the idiot here.

Other then a phone call at the end of the day to tell you what jobs to do the next day my boss just assumes everything is fine if he doesn’t here from us.

Me and another driver did a week of work on turnaround for another company, so on Friday my boss tells us what a great week it had been “because I never had one phone call off either of you”. :sunglasses:

So…

Not the most relaxing company to work for then.

you are honest with them and they are honest with you, then I call that relaxing, take the ego out of the equation on both sides, we are all there to do a job, nothing more, nothing less, how easy is that?
I speak with our planners and have a laugh and a joke with them, because I know them and they know me, I am banned from 95% of their customers, but I still have a job with them, because I insist on honesty, be it good or bad, I can deal with that, as can they.

Bullcrap costs money, so best not to start down that route.

I can see why you are ■■■■■■ about it mate, but would it not have been a much better and more productive approach, to go in the office and politely explain that it was circumstances beyond your control, and you would have been ok otherwise (proved by your successful Mon shift)
Then go on to tell them you are a pro and competent driver so you will not tolerate being talked to on the phone as you were.
(You may have earned more respect that way :bulb: )

Then tell the driver to go and ■■■■ himself as he was not your boss so it had ■■■■ all to do with him…end of.

As I said previously, politely nip all this type of crap in the bud, start as you mean to go on, and in the process…Keep your job on YOUR terms :bulb:

Why is it that in the last 40 years working i have had people talking like this but never seen it happen or meet anyone who it’s happened to?

And WTF does “marra” mean?

^^^^ this ^^^^

I speak our guys in the office regularly, because we are 2 of the 3 legs that’s keeps our little tripod of a company upright. We have a crack, we try and help each other out, we are a team! It makes for a far more relaxed atmosphere, you don’t dread the phone ringing.
