How much does it all cost for the supermarket to truck the goods from the UK.Is the store totally reliant on this operation on behalf of Continental Express? Can Morrissons in Gib not source the produce localy, and the prices for the supermarket stock is quite cheap, seeing they have to import most of the stock.

You do post some crap Toby .
Where on earth are you going to get Yorkshire Pudding Mix, Worcester Sauce,Tyne Brand Stew or London Dry Gin in Spain?
{edit}Before Toby takes any offence. Let me point out this was a deep tongue in cheek remark only understood in Yorkshire. I actually look forward to his randomness.
Who brings you the iceberg lettuce Haulier? {endedit}
Yeah he does, but i’ll answer this one. Actually you can buy all that stuff in no end of shops along the Costa del Sol, but most are overpriced.
When you work the freight cost over a full truck load it’s a fraction of a penny per item.
There are a few locally sourced products in there but 95% comes from the uk. Continental Express used to sub some loads to Frio Ejido but you don’t seem to see them much anymore. Very strange but even the spanish produce goes to the uk and then down to gib. Best bit of the store is that it’s got a bar, you can have a pint while the the other half does the shopping. The cafe even has the same menu as the uk, you get a really good breakfast there. Due to the weakness of the pound the store has been doing record volumes, brits travel from all along the coast to do there shopping there and lots of the spanish now shop there as well. I know that in the build up to last christmas the store was getting up to 30 full loads a week.

Not a cat in hells chance - it is by far and away the most profitable store safeways or morrisons as it now is will ever have. There a literally coachloads of expats go there everyday and due to the poor level of the pound even the Spaniards from the surrounding areas shop there now.
Been weekened in Gib a few times with Steve Walker, one lady in the pub offered her shower for drivers to use.Think they got more than a back rub, that was a rumour, off course.Tried to do some scuba, but the scuba shop man was a miserable git,and made excuses not to go diving.
it’s not so much the question of can they source products in spain it’s more that they WON’T because they still don’t like each other across the border.
the spanish are only too happy to buy ■■■■ and spirits cheap one day then next day claim that gib should be part of spain!!
and the gibraltarians are only too happy to tell you they are not spanish but babble away talking spanish to each other
The old cinema still going strong,in Gib.Wheel clamp notices everywhere you go,wonder who gave them that idea??

those ■■■■■ at cargo express got me clamped down there,i asked a couple parked up at the pumps where i could for the night and they said we usually park in the coach parking by the side of the store,so i put a big note on the windscreen saying i was delivering at 8am to the store for the builders and awoke to find a bloody clamp and a £50 removal fine
Parking in Gib is a problem in a car - in a truck its nigh on impossible. The only real option is the beach car park, but you can get trapped in by cars especially in summer. But why park in Gib when there is the dust bowl at La Linea or about 8km away Bernards on the A7 Algeciras road.
When with Walker,we would be able to park on a quay.To get in to it,head towards the cruise terminal, turn left before the security gates of the terminal. Before that it was a large swing out to the left to get the trailer to turn right. No trucks allowed there now.Acerinox factory has truck parking and the shopping centre near by.
A few Xmas’s ago a small firm had the contract to truck the fresh Xmas turkeys to Gib. Two trucks going down & one coming up empty met at Aranjuest ■■ They got on the booze ;the two going down would miss Xmas & the one going home was fed up with the job & wanted to jack-in . They all got in the empty one to drive to Madrid airport .On the way the truck was wrote off ,it was dark you understand . No other vehicle was involved & the boys were able to get their flight home . Think of the boss the next day , two urgent loads abandoned in Spain & one truck written off & no drivers. I often wonder if Waitrose ever got the turkeys in time .

Aranjuez - just south of Madrid on the A4.

If I arrive early evening I park in the LH lane of the promenade (dual carriageway) that turns into the Truck parking area for Spanish Customs.
Never had any problems being moved on (there are usually plenty more trucks parked up) and being close to the border crossing I would imagine fairly safe.
An added bonus is that you are one of the first into Customs in the morning and a short walk into La Linear for a meal and a drink the previous evening.
When leaving Gib if I need to park up I use the land at the side of Customs and the border, the area that they use for the fair, though occasionally they fence it off and charge a few euros for parking.
When BOC took over Spalding Haulage they used to run stuff down to Marks & Spencer stores in Spain from the UK,including fresh sandwiches, just how fresh they were when they got to the shelves is anyone’s guess

Kw they were always double manned down so the sandwiches would have been 2 days old by the time the hit the shop … i used to work for boc and by the way the guad loads were subbed to split pin (god bless him) and his drivers
It looks like Morrisons are really having it off in gib. I wonder if they blame it all on the freight cost.
