Morrison's

Hi all, I’m new here (1st post) and new to logistics (C last month and just got my shiny new C+E licence back in the post yesterday).
I have been contacting everyone and emailing CV’s and getting the usual no experiencee no job that others speak about. I’ve been looking at only C+E jobs and spoke to a young lady this morning at an agency regarding a job driving class 1, when she found out I had no experience she asked me to hold which I did, when she came back she said she can’t help me with C+E because she can only place experienced C+E drivers, however she can put me forward for a job driving C class for Morrison’s. After some online research I have surmised the work is based at the Feltham depot and I will be part of the supply chain for “M Local” convenience stores within London.

I have been a motorcycle and small van courier serving London and the South in the past so not that bothered about driving in the city, although I am sure driving a rigid in the city will be a whole new ball game. I’m thinking of taking the job if it’s offered to me as at least I will be earning what seems good money for driving a rigid and I will be gaining valuble experience all be it in a C not a C+E, and I will be getting my feet through the door with a potential full time employer with a view of moving up to C+E driving with them.

Does this sound like a good approach, or should I just concentrate in getting C+E work and experience?

I’ve decided to give Morrison’s a miss as I think I should just fix my sights at class 1 work. I’ve got an interview with a haulage firm in Reading on monday driving C+E, and a start on tuesday working for a firm in the Sainsburys supply loop, C+E @ more than Morissons are paying. So if monday doesn’t work out I have work to get on with as of tuesday.

Good on ya pal.

Keep us posted.

Well done and good luck

Thanks guys, I will let you know how things go

So went for the interview in Reading, stupid me should have asked the pay before wasting fuel to get there  the guy interviewing me also puzzled me as he said it is illegal for me to drive on my licence as I have not completed any CPC hours. I passed “B” in 1986 so have grandfather rights covering me to 2014 (because as we all know, back in the day passing B also gave you C1), by which time I must have logged the 35hrs :unamused: Its scary to think these guys run transport offices and are meant to be in the know!! Unless I have crossed over to a parallel universe and the law is different here, but don’t think I have, have I?

Anyhow, he said I will need 7hrs completed for me to be legal and take a job with them, I tried to tell him he was wrong but it fell on deaf ears… So seems this company are willing to give new drivers experience (even if the company is unsure of rules and regs), but that comes at the cost of a respectable wage, so off to work with the agency tomorrow
