More than half of motorists 'not taking regular breaks'

More than half of drivers do not take regular rest breaks, a survey for road safety charity Brake and insurance company Direct Line suggests. According to the poll, 55% of drivers do not follow guidance to take rest breaks every two hours on a long trip. Also, 35% of the 1,000 drivers polled said they often continued a journey despite feeling sleepy. Brake is calling for more rest areas for drivers and government advertising to highlight the issue.

Hmmm… Now it’s an issue for ‘motorists’ they are calling for more rest areas! Lets hope they make them big enough for LGV’s too :exclamation:

We (as car drivers) dont need more rest areas.
Everyone is different, we as HGV drivers are used to going longer anyway so we will not feel fatigued as much.
when I am In my car there is no way I’ll be stopping every 2 hours.
I drove from Cairns to Melbourne in a car and was stopping every 6 hours.

Perhaps if they were to bloody speed up they wouldn’t need to stop for a break…

Just what we need, car drivers taking more breaks taking more layby space probably parked a minimum 20 meters apart :unamused:

Yes your right! I think they should have introduced tacho graphs for bicycles years ago.
Dam dangerous letting people not abide by the 90 hour fortnight law while riding a pogo stick.

FFs give me strength, how many laws do you bloody want?

FarnboroughBoy11, that is roughly where I fall too. It depends on many things though… Sleep the night before… Stress during the day… How comfortable the car is… Day/Night… Longest I’ve driven non stop was 15 hours on the way back from Gibraltar, and that was only for fuel!

Once again, agencies trying to tell people how to live their lives. I’ve no problem with them doing it, the sheep of Great Britain all need herding for sure, but they need to understand that everybody is different, as mentioned above.

I’ve considered this before, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if a form of ‘private tacho’ was introduced for cars. I’ll shut up now shall I, before I give ‘them’ ideas!!

How dumb are these agencies ?

There are plenty of places for drivers of small vehicles to stop and rest

24 hour superstores are all over the UK and they are great for doing just this - that’s just one idea

Drivers, whatever they are driving, often put what they are doing in front of what is safe to do but to change that requires changing their thinking processes - perhaps they can go the chemist and get the corrective thinking pill !!

It has nothing to do with any other road user because each driver is responsible for their own thinking

I bet they can allready do this, the ECU on my 02 passat will let you display time the car has been moving, and only semms to clear its self after about an hour standstill. If it is can be displayed on the dash then its being held somewhere in the ECU, and thats on an 11 year old car. Newer ones only have more data being recoreded.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if a motorist had a bad accident possibly involving fatalities, that the police start to interogate the ecu to recover such data, also including average speed, if it hasnt happened yet then it will do. Coming to an accident near you soon :unamused:

That just isn’t legal as the ECU isn’t an official recording device.

What is legal however is these new Black Boxes being offered by insurance companies to lower premiums for new drivers. Now that is a legal recording/monitoring device.

I imagine the majority of mobile phone technology already has that information using the cell networks

Yeah, and you know that at one point someone will be offering experienced drivers cheaper insurance with them fitted :unamused: and sheep will flock :unamused:

In the movies we can often see that some advanced technology are used to protect the important information and prevent it from being lost or people who aiming to get it. Seen from another point we can regard such kind of action as the security method for both people and the information and this is indeed. Right here you will know the desktop cell phone WiFi jammer can also be your best guard and have a good beginning here. When being serious disturbed because of the application of some devices, no doubt another kind of device that can help to conquer the problem and help you to gain the better condition is need and must be used. So now to gain the better condition, various kinds of signal blockers are invented and come into the market to create quality change for people. Such as the cell phone jammers, GPS jammers, wifi jammer, video jammers and so many other types of jammer products. And what quality changes can they bring you? Then you should be ready to see the following content.
