Four people have died in a pile-up which took place on the Madrid to Irún N-I motorway on Saturday night, and which seriously injured another three people. Two of the victims are children, both of them young girls aged 13.

It happened at kilometre 267 of the road, near Quintanavides, in Burgos, and involved two cars and a lorry. It appears that the first vehicle veered onto the opposite carriageway, crashing head-on into the car. Both cars were then hit by the lorry.

Elsewhere in Spain this weekend, three people died and six were injured in an accident on the CV-60 road near Terrateig, in the Valencia Region, and two bodies were recovered from a car which crashed into a canal off the SE-3201 road in Tocina, Seville province.

Initial figures for the start of the Easter break indicate that at least 22 people have lost their lives in accidents on Spain’s roads.
