£5m work on M18 motorway in South Yorkshire under way
M180/18 junction Junction 5 of the M18 is being widened and traffic lights are being installed as part of the £5m scheme

Work on a £5m scheme to tackle congestion on a section of a motorway linking South Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire is under way.

Junction 5 of the M18 near Doncaster, which meets the M180 leading to Scunthorpe, is being widened and traffic lights are being installed.

The work is expected to be completed in March.

The Highways Agency has warned of lane closures on the slip roads and a temporary 50mph speed limit.

Project Manager Steven Wright said: "We have put in place lane restrictions at the junction and we expect delays at peak times to increase once the schools return following the half term holiday.

"We have planned the work to try and minimise any delays to drivers and we ask that drivers take care when travelling through the roadworks, leaving extra time for their journeys.

“When complete, the scheme will cut congestion and improve journeys for drivers.”

The agency said diversions were in place for motorists wanting to access roadside services.

Why do “improvements” always mean traffic lights? Come to Oxfordshire, where traffic lights are the solution to everything. :unamused:
