Snooper S600 , 7 jnch screen tried the tom tom 5150 hated it sent it back after a week but i will say the screen graphics on tom tom are good as it the traffic updates
I’ve got a 5150 and love it. Like all sat navs it’s not absolutely perfect, but if used properly in conjunction with Google Earth/phoning the contact at the deliverery point for advice, you can input way points so that it is programmed perfectly. The fact you can input trailer heights to avoid low bridges is a good enough reason to justify one over a car sat nav.
Dolph:
Guys, I have genuine question: Is Britain trucking atlas enough for driving truck, I mean road restrictions(weight), low bridges, residential area with NO truck signs or sat nav is a must?
Thanks.
Depends what sort of work you’re doing. If you are doing rdc to rdc work I’d be comfortable with a truck map and a car sat nav, but if you’re doing general work I’d say that driving without a truck sat nav is irresponsible. The technology is there to be used.

My 5150 is losing the plot now. It struggles in city centres like in the middle of Birmingham where it decided it would not connect to the saterlite leaving me high and dry with no directions when they are digging the road up!

A lot of drivers say that device is brilliant. It’s £70 with Bluetooth or £65 without. The guy, Chris, is a trucker so knows what a driver needs. And he provides a telephone number for support. I’m buying one as soon as I’ve got a spare £70, (next week I hope).
Mart, can you report back if you purchase? Do you know whether the holder attaches to dash as well as screen? Can’t be doing with it on the windscreen.
I don’t know. But I’m sure you could get a different holder off ebay. I’ll let you know when I get one. From what other drivers tell me, these are brilliant. There are cheaper ones on eBay but they’re not too good. Plus, this guy is in morecambe, Lancashire. Not in China like other sellers.
I use the truck tables sat nav for my work. Hasn’t failed me yet. Always keep an eye on road signs etc for height limits/weight limits but it’s never tried to take me down a wrong road.
I don’t know if they’re updated, but mine is still on the old speed limits so it goes a bit berserk when I’m doing 50mph on a single carriageway. But it’s a minor annoyance.

According to the website, they still are on old speed limits. Don’t know how easy this is to update or get round.
I have the Garmin Dezel and am disappointed with it. Until a couple of months ago I used an old tomtom car satnav which was great. Yes I now have bridge heights but the tomtom was far better. I do a lot of city work and have to go into weight limits ( access for loading) and the Garmin puts up messages across the screen telling you to get out even though you have to go down that road. When it does this you can’t see where you are meant to go then starts re routing. Also when you plan a route it doesn’t give you an option to check which way it is sending you. I wouldn’t recommend the Garmin to anyone and it is obvious it was not designed for trucks. Go for the tomtom or snooper

So I got the trucknav off Chris Salisbury at hgv-trucktables this week. It takes a bit of playing with to get the settings right and inputting addresses and postcodes, but generally it’s a good bit of kit. I bought the bluetooth version which connected to my phone easily. I’ve inputted dimensions for a sprinter van as that’s all I’ve driven since I got it but I haven’t had any issues yet. Will be trying it in a 7.5 tonner on Tuesday. In my opinion, go and buy 1. Chris gives contact details if you have any problems. Could do with a case for it though.
Oh 1 annoyance, when you arrive at your destination, the map clears immediately, so you have nothing to look back on. There’s probably an easy setting to fix but haven’t found it yet.
Further to my contribution on pages 1 & 2, I’m just reading the last 3 or 4 pages of this thread, and while I find most of it is a bit over my head (not because I’m thick, more can’t be arsed with technology far beyond what is actually necessary) I just find it fascinating, (bordering on shocked) how totally reliant most of you are on this stuff.
I ain’t trying to be clever or funny…seriously , but I reckon if some of you had a busted sat nav you would either have a week on the sick, or go to work unable to do your job.
I’m all for progress…yeh.really! and I have moved with the times on the whole, but it’s got to the stage now with hi tech, automatic trucks, Ott sat navigation kit and all the rest of it, where the truck drives the driver instead of vice versa as it was .
Not after an Old style driver versus New style argument…been there done that/boring , (and I would only win anyway ) but does anybody agree? especially the new lads? Just curious.
