A total of 110 vehicles, and 85 offences. It’s hardly criminal is it?
But why employ muppets that can’t hide their tracks?
A transport manager that pays you for 7 days work. All he had to do was a bit of re wording. 5 days pay and 2 days away from home pay/downtime/christmas bonus/easter bonus/Queens birthday/Groundhog pay.
Drivers that pull cards rather than do a quick rewire.
Where do they find them?
I’m not saying running bent, or tipping off the card is right or wrong. But if you’re going to do something, FFS Do it right.

They don’t realise that pulling the card (if it’s a digi tacho) will then record the time driven without a card in it. All that VOSA have to do is plug into the head unit and you will probably see a 30 second stop, one minute the card is in, the next it’s not. There really are some thick people around.

85 offences in a 6 week sample,sounds pretty criminal.

On my first week of digital tachos i had six discrepencies. one of which showed over 5 hours driving without a break. It was my balls up, I wrote down what i’d done and why. I explained it to Vosa when they pulled me. They were happy with my explanation.
So less than 1 offence each, over a 6 week period isn’t much really.

So you know what their infringements were? All minor ones where a quick note will explain? Traffic Commisioner who heard all the evidence begs to differ.

They can tell from an analogue tacho if it’s been moved without a card in too, the V trace won’t line up.
Thats true Harry, but I bet the drivers pulled their card to get back to the depot. Then they’ll probably have another driver driving the same truck. That’s what I was saying about being able to tell as they probably only stop, pull the card out and set off again.
they are well known in my area for this sort of thing along with some other local companies
They’ve been for tea and biscuits and a chat with the TC before, maintenance issues as I recall.
Dennis Smith, the former transport manager is the most incompetent person I’ve ever had the misfortune to work alongside
I worked in the office at MJD for a short while, it would’ve been longer but I punched someone who shouldn’t have been punched, however it was a very good punch resulting in a hospital stay and memory loss (just a shame there were witnesses or I would’ve got away with it )
During that time, Smith totally ruined that firm, it never had the best reputation, but if you were one of the blue eyed boys (which I was as I first worked there when they only had three lorries) it was a good job, decent tackle and the money was better than almost everyone else in the area. There were odd occaisions when drivers worked over their hours, but in those days that was SOP at a lot of companies, the ministry weren’t as proactive as they are now.
Then Smith joined up, one of his first responsibilities was to make sure there was fuel in the yard, he was [zb]ing useless at that, they were forever running out of diesel, how he expected to run lorries without fuel is beyond me
Next up he was put in charge of the Geest contract, this required 41ton vehicles, so he ordered 20 Renault Premium 4x2s and plated them at 38tonnes The drivers were expected to work their maximum hours, so he stopped the overtime after 12hrs and generally [zb]ed everyone’s wages up every week, resulting in major headaches from Geest on a daily basis as the lorries couldn’t carry the weight and the drivers, rightly, refused to work more than 12hrs
As the company’s reputation became worse it was harder and harder to find new drivers, Smith’s answer was to [zb] the remaining drivers wages up on a weekly basis so that they left too, his next answer was to get drivers from Eastern Europe and they destroyed the lorries and trailers and paid no regard to hours regulations, nice one Dennis
The only thing I can think of is that he had photos of the Doles in a compromising position, he must have, neither of the owners, Pat or Mick were fools, not by a long shot, so he must’ve had something on them to get away with the gross incompetence he commited on a daily basis

I think that’s why they got all the new renaults and ice is a couple of years back as the tackle did look pretty ropey before that.

It is and it isn’t I got my card Analysed after about 3 months and it spat out for a4 pages of infringements.
Going through there was nothing major. A couple of over speeds a couple of minutes over here and there and stuff. I’ve never run bent as such just silly mistakes.
i remember them being in coca cola edmonton and sidcup around 95/96 when i worked for stobarts, daf xf’s that looked totally trashed. i posted on here at the time that one of their drivers told me he had english guys working mon to fri and east europeans over the weekends, also the owner had a couple of houses he rented out to his euro drivers and a hefty price…not sure how much of it was true and recently they looked like they where looking after the kit…
