Yup… what a place to “Chill out”. I think the driver should be prosecuted as there is absolutely no excuse with a fridge box. A solid padlock or container lock would have seen this avoided.
Just because you are able to think, doesn’t mean you should.
We had a new folding wall trailer come through the tunnel lat Ocober, all padlocked, no obvious marks on the trailer, drivers did the checks, found 18 of the bar stewards on the back.
Doesn’t matter how much you lock it, if you have the right amount of money, you can be in. Those Muppets you see jumping from bridges onto the roof of a trailer and climbing on unsecured trailers in queues have no money. Those with money employ traffickers who have locksmiths, welders all manner of relevant trades on the books.
Police interviewed my drivers for four hours and determined that they had done all they could to prevent them getting on and that was that, no fines.
Yeah, maybe I worded it a bit wrong…
IF there was no seals or locks on the trailer and he sailed through the port without checking his load, - THEN - he deserves to be fined.
I really don’t see why they can’t be 100% secured, I am always told not to park up within 1 hour of Calais, ALWAYS have a container lock/solid padlocks on the back doors and always check at regular intervals. I even had to fill out a form detailing all my checks and precautions to prevent clandestine’s… all to cover my arris.
With a fridge, one of these would have seen these morons stuck in France for a few more hours. (If it fits the trailer, if not, something similar or some solid locks)
(Not these ones but similar)
OBVIOUSLY, if it was a curtain sider with entry through the roof / a superglued TIR cord or similar, then I can understand why someone may not have noticed, but a fridge is so easy to secure, its a joke that people don’t secure them, especially with the way Calais is at the moment/has been for the last few years. I would like to think I would pick up on a superglued TIR cord/seal because we are told to look out for it and give them a good tug at regular intervals

Ultimately it is down to the driver to complete his/her checks and I think it’s very difficult to claim that anyone other than the driver is responsible for this, these people could have died if he hadn’t decided to stop for a coffee/■■■■ and it could have all been avoided by checking his vehicle or securing his back doors properly.
