I’m sorry but this does ‘appear’ to be overkill. Firstly, why did they even need to steam round within 18 minutes of the offence, if at all. Surely a letter inviting him to attend would have been a better use of resource? It’s not as though there was any immediate danger to the public. Also, in the video, he wasn’t exactly frothing at the mouth. He may have calmed down before his wife started filming, but he definitely didn’t pose a risk during that clip.
Why would they needed to have gained entry anyway? They could have conducted an interview on the doorstep. It does appear these days, there’s an edge to policing that is getting nasty.
Here’s one for you Rob
and I’m totally with your point of view on the …ers

EDIT : just noticed you’ve already posted this
total t055ers in my opinion !!!
Monkey241:
Funny though…these initiatives usually lead to the discovery of more serious offences.
It’s not as if a patrol simply focuses on naff private plates and ignores anything else they see that day.I love this idea that coppers pulling someone for an offence should go after the real criminals. …
If you’ve broken the law you ARE the real criminal…just a poor imitation of the more serious variety

Maybe not heavy handed? [emoji38]
3 Police cars, and 6 coppers rocking up for something as trivial (and ridiculous) as that?.
Wrestling him to the ground?
Sure he was a bit stupid as you say, but ffs.
I reckon I’d be ‘‘difficult’’ in that scenario also tbh. There are numerous examples of coppers not bothering their arses to turn up after burglaries and robberies, but yet this merits mob handed arrival.
As trivial and ridiculous as that?
Hmmm…it is an offence though?
As for the nature of the offence, suspects accused of trivial offences never get violent?
Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
But they do get arrested despite not being violent - and charged with being violent, when that accusation is a complete fabrication…
What an irony it would be if this police behaviour - ends up being the very thing that re-unites our divided faith communities?
Maybe the answer is for Police to swear a similar “Do no harm” oath, like Doctors do?
robroy:
Call me old fashioned but I’d prefer to see the Police addressing important things.
Define important things. Lets look at shoplifting as there’s quite a few of the more gutter level of society who think that’s no big deal and no doubt you’ll come under the “it’s only a chocolate bar so why bother” brigade…
What about someone who nicks £20 of shopping, is that important? It may be a big deal for a small mom and pop corner shop you’d no doubt think it isn’t a big deal for say Tesco who make £300m profit so do we get to the point where Police investigate shoplifting if it’s the corner shop but don’t bother with it if it’s Tesco?
robroy:
I don’t doubt that you have a standard plate, being such a conformist and upholder of the law.
Me? What a rebel eh?
I have a private plate,.(so I obviously I belong to the criminal fraternity, and quaify to be potential bank robber.) …and guess what?
One letter is 3mm off centre, so not exaggerating nor stating the ridiculous at all eh?
Cheers.
Ah now we get to the crux of the matter. You wasted a silly amount of money on a personalised plate that requires non-standard spacing or cleverly located screws and coloured caps to have to make it obvious what it’s supposed to spell out and you don’t think it’s fair that you should get fined because it doesn’t comply with the legal standards for numberplates.
It’s always funny when it turns out the person complaining about the police going after “low hanging fruit” for a particular offence lets out that it’s because it’s what they’re actually doing themselves and don’t think it’s fair that the police should target them because “I’m a law abiding citizen (apart from the law they’ve admitted breaking)” and all that guff. It’s even more funny because the same people like Rob will then bang on about how shoplifters should be hung whilst the people doing the shoplifting have the attitude of “it’s a multi-billion company I’m nicking from, it’s only worth a few quid and it does no harm so why should the police be going after me, they should be going after proper criminals.”

Ok …stuff more important than trivial things like personalised reg plates.
Like the way you think you know what I think by your use of ''No doubt… preceding your theory.
Are you some kind of psychologist or clairvoyant?.. or just a self confessed know all .
(That was rhetorical btw, don’t bother answering,. )

Just for the record you’re way off on the reg plate, and whether I had a one or not I would still feel the same way that there are more important things, especially on the road for the Police to prioritise on, I’m sure I don’t need to list them for you.
Why would I come on here and say I had one knowing that people like you would jump on it,…my points are all about principle, not specifically the example of reg plates.
If you think the Police do a good job, fine , that’s your opinion. (No doubt )
Dont know what or why tf you are prattling on about shoplifting, of course I don’t approve if it , and I’ve never ever came out with ‘‘I’m a law abiding citizen’’ b/s even if (on the whole
) I am.
If you get burgled any time Conor, just look up your road and see if anybody has been pulled for a trivial offence commited at the same time as your burglary, or a money making excercise…let me know how you feel about it.
They?
This man was arrested for a public order offence in addition to the original offence.
It’ll be interesting to see if the video recorded by the wife covers the whole incident… or just the part after he’s been put on the floor
One hopes the police personal cameras back the use of force.
Mind you when plod show up at your door I’d suggest the rational thing is to open the door and engage civilly with them

When they bring in face recognition technology as standard, will it be a crime to rearrange your face?
It’s always been a crime to rearrange someone’s face…
Unfortunately yes.
But I guess it will be a crime to disguise your own face at some point as face recognition becomes as widespread as anpr is now

I think what the public wants and needs to see - is people being arrested for the minor crimes, and being treated gently, such as shoplifters as the above example suggests… The “Why Bother” crimes get the kid gloves treatments BUT they DO get nicked, which is to the point here. “Letting people off” or “Ignoring” crimes, no matter how petty - emboldens such petty criminals to escalate to something more harmful to the public, in pursuit of that left-wing dream of “Free stuff at another’s expense”.
For the more serious and violent crimes - there needs to be a better, faster, and heavy-handed response, such as the Streatham example of a Jihadist being actually tracked by security agents, and then popped off the moment he plunged the knife into some bystanders back… OK, it is a shame they couldn’t have nailed the guy BEFORE he committed that crime, but hey - we still don’t live under “Minority Report” laws as of yet… Or do we?

Must have counted at least 40 mini buses yesterday on their way back home from their jollies in Glasgow.
Ah well, now they’re back home on patrol, at least now we will be safer in our beds whilst seeing a sharp raise in ‘‘Number plate detection’’, tracking down all the gang members with RONIIE and REG61E number plates eh?
Ok I’ll leave it now. .
It was pretty nice these convoys of police vehicles passing through my patch over the last week. Everyone stuck to the speed limit and all had the correct number plates on!
It will be interesting next month when we start wearing body worn cameras, I’ve received a lot of verbal abuse over the years whilst on closures, it will be nice to record the incident and be believed for a change.

Are you Highways Agency then?
Abuse is one of the reasons I disagree with HA being proposed for levying fines for driving offences by one contributor.
