Started my second block of 35 hours CPC training Saturday just gone, did drivers hours again different training provider this time but that’s about 4 times I’ve done the drivers hours syllabus.
2 things came up during the day which I think are completely false as I haven’t seen anything in black and white on the GOV.org website or in the RHA manual.
The first thing was that our trainer said that if you do a printout just to check somthing you have done through the day you must keep it for 2 year as it is a legal document and if VOSA do a check and download information off the digi unit then they can see when you have done a printout, ask you for the printout and if you can’t provide it they can fine you?
Me myself think it’s a load of bollox. I know if you do a printout for say going over your hours due to an accident to write on the back stating why then yes you keep a copy for yourself but not for the first instance.
The second thing I think is a load of tosh is regarding opting out of the 10 hour rule for night workers with a collective workforce agreement. He said that from 2012 the employer doesn’t have to get a collective workforce aggrement to opt out of the ruling so in my eyes that means the employer has all the power, I’ve checked the relevant websites and can find nothing that states this to be true.
He was talking rubbish on all counts.
- A digital tachograph doesn’t record when a printout is done.
- You only need to keep legally required printouts.
- To opt out of any part of the RT(WT)R requires an opt out agreement.

Exactly what I thought. Ain’t it great that these people can do these courses to “train” or “learn” drivers and get paid a fair whack for talking bollox
Given the fact that when I got invited in for a DVSA check last year they took a printout & gave me a copy, they said to keep it for 28 days then you can bin it, I would say the first part is rubbish. When I tramped, up until November last year, I took printouts regularly to check my times, never been asked for them, ever.
As for the nights I’ve also had a look, cannot find anything that has changed. If it has some of the better rule guys will be along to confirm/deny that story. There you go, I haven’t even posted yet & it’s confirmed as rubbish.
Here we go again, another 5 years of DCPC “facts” that will turn out to be total pish. The only good thing about it, for me, is that I will be finished before needing it again.
this is why the whole DCPC is a complete farce which basically is a way to fleece more money out of drivers and nothing else.
we have a tacho/regs test for drivers and since the DCPC came in i would say the average score is going down not up ( and its not designed to trick or test massive in depth knowedge as a whole ), a lot of the basic questions are answered wrong which surprises me when drivers are being trained so thoroughly!
Don’t you get a form to complete after the day? You should make your point on that or later on to the course provider. Not all drivers know that this is rubbish and some will now go around stating it to be true “because I was told in a CPC lecture.”

***And it would only be if the tacho was being used to monitor the WTD would they have to be kept for two years so he was wrong there as well.

Not just DPCC trainers talking ■■■■■■■■, DVSA at it as well. That wouldn’t be a legally required printout so no need to keep it at all, no need for them to even give you a copy.
I thought the only time you had to keep printouts is if you are driving after loosing or having a faulty digital card until your new card comes or if you’ve gone over your time due to unforseen circumstances

Correct, those would be legally required printouts and need keeping. A printout taken to check on the hours/work you’ve dome isn’t legally required so can be binned.
Tell us who the training provider was then …
