I had the second module yesterday and the trainer said the DCPC is the same for everyone, whether it be a bus or wagon. Apparently the DCPC was thought up with Romania and Bulgaria joining the EU as apparently they get automatic entitlement to drive a artic if they can drive a tractor and trailer and as they will be entitled to apply for jobs in the rest of the EU they will also have to have the DCPC to drive so they should have abit of knowledge after doing said DCPC. I say make them sit a ■■■■■■■ test.

I’ve worked with several Romanian drivers, they have been methodical polite reliable and very good drivers, well capable blokes, if they are an example of what Romania is going to send then heaven help some of the steering wheel attendees we produce.
The two i formed decent friendships with had been trained like our old school were and it showed, been through the system and worked their way up the lorry ladder, as far removed from being chucked a licence at as anyone could imagine.
I would employ either of them without hesitation.
The DCPC is bollox, its a money spinner for some, a nice little semi retirement soft job for others, and about as much use as a chocolate teapot when it comes to training drivers.

You didn’t need me to tell you that , go on honestly what have any of us learned of any real use in our work from these modules …apart from one or two confirmations of nitty gritty WTD laws etc that we could easily have found out here by asking the resident experts nicely.
Having said that its a good skive and we get an insight into what a doddle the average the pen pushers job is compared to our real world, company pays the course and we get paid a full day to do it.
Hopefully it’ll cause a bit of a driver shortage when those who are adamant they ain’t going to do it leave driving next Autumn, just in time for the Christmas build up…
Suspect it’ll be a bit short lived for them though when the reality of 12 hour shifts on security for minimum wage hits home, and they’ll soon be beating on the DCPC trainers door.

Isn’t there a considerable number of “drivers” working for that already?

Hmm fair point, but some are possibly doing what they enjoy which must be some compensation.

I thought the trainer would of been telling the truth as hes ment to know it all, obviously not. We are having to do the course in our time and paying £35 per module for the privilege so you are lucky.
