Moped on hard shoulder m1 south j5/6

There was a 50cc step thru scooter doing 30 southbound on the hard shoulder at 10.40 this morning. L plates on it and a green box on the back, definitely a courier

Anyone else see it ?

That road at that time of day I’d imagine that thousands saw it, not unfortunately those whose job it is to enforce our laws however. They’ll all have been elsewhere attending diversity courses no doubt.

At least he was going the right way, about 3 or 4 week ago on a Sunday I was going clockwise round the 25 between potters bar and the a10 when I passed a cyclest going the wrong way on the hard shoulder which at at point is only about 3foot wide as that section is smart motorway

The moped rider may have a full licence and have bored his engine out to 51cc making it legal for him to ride on a motorway. It’s only motorcycles (which includes mopeds as mopeds are a special class of motorcycle) under 50cc which are not allowed on the motorway.

He had a valid reason to be there, the flipy floppy weekending on the shoulder had ordered a pizza.

I thought is was 125cc and over?

Hence why most are actually 124cc, making them learner legal.

It was probably Kerraguy.

He regaled us with an extremely amusing tale of when someone crapped in his top box last year.
But unfortunately he had forgotten which user ID he’d used and got busted

Those sort of people are called organ donors

Was it green? With a yellow stripe?

A bloke drove past me earlier on way to slough, m40 I was doing 56 he was in middle lane doing 62 just cruses past me, I looked down at him as he went past, he had his trousers and boxers down and was furiously ■■■■■■■■■■■■ :open_mouth:

I was feeling hungry up to that point, still haven’t eaten yet and don’t feel like it

Forget coming down south again, bunch of degenerates down here

If I was doing 62 mph on a step thru I would be ■■■■■■■■■■■■ [emoji23]

No, Motorway Regs prohibit motorcycles under 50cc. The legal definition of a moped is a motorcycle that (among other restrictions on design speed etc) has an engine not exceeding 50cc. Hence a moped is not allowed on Motorways. The definition of a moped used to require that it had pedals as well as an engine - hence mo(tor)-ped(al), but this requirement was removed in the late 70s.

HOWEVER, in recent years the term moped has passed into common usage to mean any small capacity “scooter” style motorcycle - many of which do indeed have engines of 100-125cc. It’s still only the ones under 50cc that are prohibited from using Motorways.

Years ago I saw a fella on a pushbike merrily pedalling along the hard shoulder of the A1M a mile or two south of Hatfield.
