we are not disputing the fact that you can be prosecuted for disabling the safety device if something happens, if the driver disconnects it in any way, shape or form and something happens, it is down to the driver alone, but, as i asked earlier, which you have still failed to answer, why would the boss spec it on a brand new trailer and then ask you to disconnect it?

and, yes, i am like a dog with a bone about some things, ask a certain member (who shall not be named in case he gets the mardies on again) on here

So,ok then…having never even heard of this before and apart from disconnecting the secondary line, which is good to know…
What happens? Is that it? Are you saying you cant back up any further?

No the brakes come on and it feels like you’re upto the bay(or whatever) then 2 seconds later they release and you complete your manouver!

it is a safety device that can be fitted to the back end of trailers, basically, it is proximity sensor, they can be set to a pre-determined distance to stop the vehicle whilst reversing onto loading bays, if you back off the throttle, wait a couple of seconds, it will release the brakes and not re-apply them

they are called a soft docking device

unfortunately, they are very seldom set correctly, it took me over 20 minutes to reverse into a parking space between two other parked trucks in one of the depots, and another day, reversing between 2 sets of Straddle crane tyres in to one of the pads at Southampton dock :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

hence, i very quickly learned how to de-activate the system

but, rest assured, if there was the possibility of danger to anyone’s life, then the system would be active!!!

Gentlemen I thank you.
I would show my thanks in beer or money but I know you would not accept so my gratitude it is.

you can say whatever the hell you like about the rest of them on here, but, i will gladly accept beer or beer tokens from you :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

so you can get nearer the loading /offloading point to save a return load or a tranship and the extra costs involved . hope thats the answer because my brain is fryed now . just not to good at explaining my self . cheers

Sir…Are you implying that if I give you money you would spend it on beer?
And If I give you beer you would drink it?

Tis a good job I’m here to save you from yourself! :stuck_out_tongue: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Order by 3pm and next day delivery…Told the driver I didn’t want it as he had reversed over my car.

I think they’re to stop drivers ramming at speed on to loading bays and damaging the rear of the trailer rather than a safety device to stop reversing in to someone but I stand to be corrected.
