Money

You can be certain they are liars, those who are well paid tend to keep it to themselves.

I don’t mind discussing wages with people. (i don’t ask, but if they do i’ll tell them), If they look suprised at wages in the region of £650 after tax, Then i’ll also make it very clear that i could be away for a week, or a month or more. You just wouldn’t know how the job would pan out. It usually works out that they earn more per hour, But not as much overall.
If people don’t discuss these things, then some could be stuck with crap money when others are getting much more for the same amount of work.
However, There are some out there that seem to ask everyone they come across the same question. :unamused:

There are plenty of drivers picking up over £700 per week. What you need to realise is that they have done the equivalent of two weeks work for that! 70+ hours = two weeks work in one week.

On that kind of money I would be happier than a dog with two dicks.

Money don’t make you happier. You just waste more on things you don’t really need.

100% agree with that,

Rate of pay is important but for me personally i would rate job satisfaction as more important.
Each to their own but the way i see it is you spend a large proportion of your life at work (especially the hours a truck driver works)and its important you are happy and content and doing something you enjoy in that time.
I would rather earn slightly less in a job where i enjoyed getting up in the morning was content in my job and having a good boss rather than earning more in a job i hated but thats just my view and each driver to their own circumstances.

I can clear £800 in 1/2 days in my trade without doing stupid hours and away all week but i don’t brag about.

Err… you just did.

Maybe, but I’d rather cry in a Merc than astride a bicycle :stuck_out_tongue:

I do it for the love of the job, the stress free-ness of it, and the respect I get for being a professional driver lol

Reason why i have started this topic is because i had come across a driver today who told me he get’s £800 to £900 a week on class 1. I just played a long with him as you do, and got on with the job, but why do they have to mention how much is in the bank at the end of the week

Was that before or after he told you he had been in the sas and had been first through the window in the embassy seige.

i dont mind telling someone what i’m on if they ask,as everyone in my line of work who is any good at it is on similar money give or take £10 a day.

I am going to say next time that i only take £50 a day lol

Used to believe that money was everything and a seemingly high weekly salaried wage swayed my mind (the OP knows where I was).
Boiled down to less than £7 an hour in the end when you’ve done 3x15’s and a couple of 12’s.
Now I don’t get night out money I earn slightly less but am far happier despite having more responsibility and challenges. Including your night out money in wages is a dangerous game because you could be down by £100 or so for a week when your on holiday.
Everyone is different though and have their own needs…some want money, some want to be home etc.

Why’s that funny I’d be chuffed with that

Here’s a reply to try…money is the devils work, our good lord has taught us to share what we have, so i don’t accept payment for my work, just god’s love and respect. I’ve got a leaflet in the truck of you’re interested…They won’t hang about for long and probably won’t talk to you again…but it made me chuckle

Seriously mate, have some [zb]ing dignity will you, or GTFO of this business.

Go and be a rent boy or something; you could make £50 in five minutes in some city centre public toilets… if that’s how much you value yourself. :unamused:

Erm maybe you’ve missed my sarcasm in that post. Clearly I wouldn’t get off my arse for that.

Clearly. :unamused:

The times when I’ve talked about money with other drivers has had nothing to do with bragging, just finding out if I want a job with them or not.

I don’t get paid a lot, but, but as long as i can pay my way, eg, rent ,bills, ,food, & run a vehicle to get to work etc, I hope I can have some spare to do what I want with
It’s better to have a wage coming in , than no wage (if your out of work), even if you have to watch what you spend it on  Everyone will have different ideals for what they want as a wage & , how they choose to spend it :sunglasses:
