Hi all, I need some help and thought you guys might know the answer.
A trainee on his Module 4 CPC test was asked - ‘Your going on a journey to a very cold climate, think Siberia, regarding your fuel system what precautions would you take?’
Might not be the exact wording given to trainee but not far off.
He said - Use fuel additive to avoid fuel waxing/freezing, turn on fuel heater system if fitted, use correct grade of winter fuel, have plenty of fuel but scored 15% not a full 20%.
The examiner said one thing was missing and its in the book, I’ve looked but no luck, any ideas? remember its only to do with the fuel system.
On the rest of the questions he got 20% but the 5% he dropped is annoying me! and as you know the examiner will not give the answer!

i was asked the same question on my mod 4,
the only awnser i gave to that is fuel additives to be added to prevent freezing. was passed with that scoring 15%… i think the other could be a fuel filter renewal,
From information obtained straight from the horse’s… These are the 2 questions relating to cold weather and fuel
(Q) Explain and possibly demonstrate what checks to
the vehicles fuel system you would make before starting a long journey in bad
weather / icy conditions?
(A) Explain to the examiner that you would check the level via the instrument panel
and visually check the tank. Once completed make sure the filler cap is
secure.
Explain to the examiner and demonstrate how you would check the mountings
and fuel pipes were in good condition.
(Q) Explain what precautions you would take with the
fuel in bad weather.
(A) Explain to the examiner the following.
Before commencing a journey in very cold weather it is essential that you have
sufficient fuel for the journey this is because you may encounter unforeseen
problems or delays due to the inclement weather.
Sometimes a long and precise answer still misses a minor point that their answer sheet says should be mentioned. Think about the driving test vehicle safety questions. Sometimes just 1 sentance answers. You could talk for 10 minutes but miss that 1 sentance and you get it wrong.
Had this a few times - explain that you would remove the fuel cap and visually check the level of fuel (Gauges could be faulty) ask if the examiner would like you to demonstrate this, to be on the safe side…
