Module 2 Case studies

Hello, my test is booked for mod 1, Hazard perception/multiple choice for Nov 3rd with mod 2 on 5th. Although I am confident with mod 1 I am struggling and wondered if anyone else was with the mod 2. I find it quite complicated, particularly axle weight limits and there is a formula to work out these weights…is it just me or is this module particularly difficult?

The LGV theory book should have all the answers you need for mod 2 then add a bit of common sense and you should be ok

Which bit on axle weights are you struggling with

It is getting my head around the formula.

Distance x weight ÷ wheelbase.

Also, this might seem obvious but if I am waiting for a load to be loaded how do I know that the correct weights have been distributed if I am not doing the loading? Do the items have load weights on them? For example if 4 pallets of tins weigh 2 tonnes will this be stated? If I am unsure and require a weighbridge how much leeway do you have if pulled over and found to be overweight? One other thing…there seems to be a lot more to LGV driving than the actual driving, if I want to drive tippers will this all be shown or do I need additional training prior to this, I know I may look into ADR but being a complete newbee I will require experience before handling anything like that for a while of course.

A weighbridge is the only way to know if you are overloaded

Tippers - no specialist training needed but each type of job is different so you will need to ask many questions when you come across a type of job you have not done before

As far as I know that sort of mathematical working out is not needed for any of the tests

Hi, thank you for the replies, the formula is part of the learning guide on the DTS learning platform. I also want to know if anyone knows how long the wait is assuming I Pass my theory tests for the practical tests, as well as this it seems that there is some uncertainty over when the new tests which leave out reversing and coupling processes will be in practice.

I have reverse training with my provider this week, although I still have not actually even day in a cab yet!

I’m in the same boat as you. We might even be on the same course if your anywhere near Manchester.

I had my module one on Thursday and module 2 today. Go on drivingtheroy4all.co.uk (or any similar provider). I paid £18 and I went through all their lessons, learnt everything about axle weights and EU driving laws and many many other things.

Well worth the money. ( I passed my module 2 anyways)

I can recommend “The Complete LGV & PCV” Driver CPC Case Study Test. I used the one for Theory/Hazard and sailed through the test.
They have a section Learning By Practice which is all you need, and its not as boring.
