i passed my practical (c) on 2.10.09.
i’m aware this is after the period (10.9.09) for accuired rights and i should have to do modules 2+4. when i passed my practical however this cpc was just coming into effect. i was in contact with the dsa who told me first off that i shouldnt have been able to take my practical and i may need to take the modules and retake the practical test. much to my horror. this i was later told will not be the case, such seemed the confusion at the time with the cpc. after many calls to dsa they eventually told me i would have accuired rights and my licence came through the post shortley after. i was told i would now just need to complete my periodic training over the next five years. the problem i have now is im temping for a company thats looking to take me on, but are asking me to have another days perodic training under my belt. i already have 1 day. so they want at least 2 days to take on. my concern is when it eventually comes to a selection prosess of who they are going to take on and who they are going to drop, they will realise when i passed my test and see i need lots of extra training. even though i have been told by the dsa i have accuired rights! of course if it hadnt of gone through how it should, i wouldn’t have even been issued a licence.
i’m not sure how to proced next. obviously i dont want to fork out and explain why i now need time off for lots of extra training. should i just carry on with the perodic training??
You need to take and pass modules 2 and 4 of the LGV driving test.
You should not drive an LGV commercially until you hold a Driver CPC card, as you took your test after the Driver CPC was introduced.
Once you have your card, you need to do 35 hours of approved training in the five years from the date it was issued.
You can only drive an LGV in one of the exempt categories (fireman driving fire engine, soldier driving army lorry, fitter driving truck on road test, trainee being taught to drive etc) until you hold the card.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
Now wait for a load of people to come on here and ‘explain’ that the driver cpc is not in force yet!
ive just looked at a cpc document online that says i have ‘rights’ as my licence dosen’t have (101) after the c catorogry. so i am not exempt for driving for ‘hire and reward’■■ it seems i may have slipped through the net? at the end of the day this was dsa’s desision?
If you passed your car test before 1997 or passed a DSA C1 test before 10/09/2009 then you will have a C1 on your licence and that gives you aquired/grandfather rights for dcpc which means you only need the 35 hours of periodic dcpc before 09/09/2014
Otherwise see post by gasgas
You are right in saying that at the start of the dcpc there was so much confusion and many authority figures got the facts mixed up and I know of one other driver who passed C about 10 days after it started and then C+E a short time later who then drove C+E until recently when he found out that the wrong info at the time was given and has now recently done initial dcpc modules 2 and 4
His DQC has an expiry date in the year 2017 because it is 5 years from passing the last of the 4 modules
