we had an injector changed last visit, but you may have a point about oil in the loom, i hadnt thought of that but have heard of it before, just double manned her to spain, and i do feel its a real shame, as the cab isexcellant for double manning in, very comfortable and she just eat the miles up, its just the incessant electrics does my head in
Any update on how your truck is performing Richmond?
Sorry should have updated truck went in agaIn and the latest faults were down to a loose plug which was done and tO be fair apps been good since then however after much thinking the next motor is going to be a Volvo but manual

Hi,same here with the Volvo got 1 I shift 56 plate from new been to bits twice, great to drive but soft for tipper work hugely expensive to repair££££££££££££££££££££££ strange speccing a manual only gets you £500 off ■■?
Silver_Surfer:
You’ve answered your own question, it is time to buy Volvo or Scania.
I’m not sure they’re necessarily any better, a chap I work with has just had to replace the main wiring loom on his 56 plate FH12 and it has cost him a fortune in both parts, labour and downtime. The old loom was slowly disintegrating and after getting the 3rd or 4th broken wire in it repaired he decided to just bite the bullet and replace the whole thing.

Hi,he was lucky my 56 nearly caught fire n/s loom aside headlamp, off road for a month waiting for them to make a loom in Sweden. Would of lost it if the driver hadnt turned the isolator off.

Dafs are notorious for this unfortunately.
Aren’t DAF doing a ‘special’ on wiring looms to solve this issue?..£200~£500 for vaious major wiring looms…down from £2,500 or thereabouts.
A lot of DAF’s problems stem from using substandard copper and pvc in their wiring looms from 2002~2008…A result of accountants sourcing supplies in China…But to be fair to DAF, they are being proactive in rectifying the situation.
Can’t remember under what thread title but seem to recall someone who was on for DAFaid listing hotspots for where they rub through and ground out on the chassis. Putting some rubber insulation there is still a good preventative measure but think, as you suggest, it’s much worse than that and the insulation on individual wires can rub through unseen within the outer trunking. Once you had to start paying labour for someone to try and track it down it would quite quickly make sense to replace the whole lot even at the orginal £££s price definitely at the cheaper price.
Status update a while on, to be fair the 04 man been fine since really but i still dont like them much however they are cheap but dear on parts in my opinion and the dealers only want big fleet customers so im still a volvo and scania man at heart a manual volvo for the fleet next and part ex the man in
There’s not a brand of truck out there that has’nt produced a total lemon from time to time,if your happy enough with the way the truck run’s now then run it into the ground,it’s the only way you’ll get that hard earned 5k back. Is the other MAN a TGA or TGS/X ,i hear the newer model’s are’nt as troublesome
Haveing thought through things and because of the local dealer and the truck i shall only buy volvos in the future and manual ones at that ,i may however buy a 143 or 113 scania if i can find one.i reckon all modernish trucks are the same now. Strange really engines boxs and axles have improved beyond belief and electrics have got ten times worse
just to put my foot in. firstly i believe that YES theres too many electrical systems on wagons as unfortunatley the reliance on technology has fed this. secondly i work for a multinational firm that when our vehicles do have electrical problems we can only delve in so far this is due to time constraints and manufacturers/bodybuilders love of routing electrical systems like spaghetti. as a fitter/technician i find it annoying when i cannot fix a problem. it leaves me fustrated and makes me look a complete c**t. wiring/electrical faults or either quick to solve or take ages to find and resolve. one point we do pick up on quite alot is that manufacturers seem to be relying more and more on electrically operated systems…1 point that me and a colleague had a discussion on…about the new FH’s parkbrake. one little point i would like to raise is we have numerous drivers come in with a vehicle complaining of a fault but they do not know what it is. also can people please remind there drivers to do a proper daily check as most of the breakdowns we go to are from drivers not bothering i know the vast majority do do them but its the minority that doesnt that needs reminding…rant over going for a cuppa and bed
its going to get worse , daf euro6 most components are bluetouth so for example the rear light has a + and - and a ecu with bluetouth reciever. the light switches in the cab have a bluetouth tranmitter so you can see whats going to happen when someone smashes something on the truck in the future
on the daf euro 6 the fuel filter housing has an ecu on it , so when you fit your £150 daf fuel filter , the element plugs into the ecu, so no more fitting pattern filters, if you do the engine wont start, progress or what!

went on a daf course at thame a couple of weeks before christmas
going back to thame on daf 105 euro 6 course next month
im there in march …have looked at lighting diagrams for euro 6 ,and there is no mention of bluetooth ,there is a Electronic Light Controller, but it looks to be hard wired…but thanks for info …
Richmond,
It saddens me to hear about your bad experiences with your MAN and your local dealer. I cannot understand the vehicle being in a VOR state for 5wks, there are procedures and ppl to turn troublesome vehicles that are VOR as quickly as possible, but obviously the dealer hadn’t went about it the right way.
Out of interest what was the cause/codes for it being off the road for 5wks,
