The sanding is not going well tryed priming it and it’s shows alot of marks
I think I’m at the stage that sorts out the men from the boys now. I could stick together what I’ve got and it would look OK at a glance.
But after seeing what is possible from you guys, I’m not going to do that, the attention to the small details is the part that really appeals to me, so even though it appears that I’ve done a fair bit, I’m probably only a quarter of the way to the finished article now.
I’m going to order the accessories kit for starters, I would also like a fuel tank on the other side (I’m not putting the spare wheel in the kit on it) and a locker behind the main fuel tank.
I’m going for the spreadaxle tilt for the trailer, which will need a belly tank, spare wheel carriers and side boxes.
I’m back out on the road this evening, so that will all have to wait for now…
Good to see your enjoying it mines getting very close to going out the window
Don’t give up on it IL, if it’s just the paint then get the fairy spray out. As it is still fresh it would come of overnight and the plastic would look like new. Set it a side for a day or so, then get back into it. Some of the models I’ve built have been on the bench a year or so before there finished. I know one builder that took the best part to 4 years to do a truck and trailer. ( It did look rather special though )
a few days here and there won’t make any difference.
NNM get some sheets of Evergreen plastic card and profile and make your own tool boxes and belly tanks, it’s all good fun. I’d happy to show you how.
A basic tool box takes about an hour, as does a belly tank, and you can make them any shape or size you like.
Jeff…
The problem now is that the sanding is showings marks after I paint the parts
One accessories kit and one Gruber canvas semi trailer (a spreadaxle tilt to you and me) has been ordered.
Looks like I got the bits I want for the unit in the accessories kit, tool box, extra tank, roof rack, air horns etc. Need to do the plasticard thing for the trailer modifications.
I’m going to be ordering a full set of tyres and will need different hubs for the trailer as the kit ones appear to be hub reduction drive axle hubs and that is just wrong on so many levels.
New merc man just go look for a kit someone wrecked and use the parts from it
I’ll have yours then
Not wrecked yet but do have a 164 kit I got at a car boot sale
Highly unlikely that I’ll pick anything up at a boot sale, the main reason being I don’t go to boot sales
IL you must have used some paper that was to rough, build up the area with primer. Do a coat, let it sit for a few hours to dry then repeat 3 or 4 times. Give it a very light coat of black and sand with 600 or 800 wet until the scratches have gone. You can see the black sitting in the sand marks, keep going until they’re gone, you might have to re prime with a few more coats. Then paint…

So, been thinking about it on my little drive this evening, I’m going to leave the F12 as it is for now and wait for the accessories and the trailer. I can add the extra tank etc to the Volvo and build up the trailer, make the belly tank, side boxes etc and get that almost built.
Then I need to work on the little details, new wheels and tyres will make a huge difference, a flat top F12 on that operation would have 12.00 tyres and the trailer would have a mix and match after countless punctures, the different wheels on Jimski’s models really make them stand out, so that is definitely how I want to go.
Then there’s the little things like a sleeping bag, tax disc and O licence, can’t do them if the cab is built and stuck together, so final assembly will be a while yet.
And then I thought about stripling the blue off the cab and painting it white, the trailer would stay the same, except it wouldn’t have the M/E bits on it and I would do it in TAE (Trans Alpine Express) colours, that’s a famous old company and I worked there too.
Decisions decisions…
Good to know your mind’s on the job
I would assume you have had a look at Kit Forum Services wed site, and M&G moulding. you would get all of your hit list on them.
You could reprime the cab then paint it white, use a dark primer to kill the blue.

your painting the same colours as me
Well seeing as my paint is on, I would say that you’re painting the same colours as me
Well my paint probably won’t be on onto next week
irish lorries ur using to course sand paper thats why the lines are showing up 2000 wet and dry is the best to use takes longer to remove mistakes but wont leave any lines or markes, this 1 im working on now cab has been sanded and resprayed in spots 3 times & still needs more work done to it, its annoying but worth it in the end to see it finished & right,

Here’s the story so far, the interior is done and ready to slot in, once I paint the middle bit of the dash black, still got a way to go yet with all the little touch ups, but I’m a lot further ahead than I expected.0
taking shape nicely now lad
Well I have been sanding the cab today and it’s not looking bad it’s not really fitting right but it will do will get some 2000 the morrow it’s going right for the first time
