So for your entire driving career you’ve been breaking the law. Not only that, you don’t actually know how to use the tacho properly?
You’ll notice the website says forums for the Professional Driver…something you are far from being.
Jonboy’s idea seems to be the best one upto now big sticker on the dash saying mode switch
And just ignore conor he’s never bent any rules ever not once

Reckon he could use a bit of smilie practice. Even the most innocent request for advice seems to invite insult from him.
Hitch. I go with Jonboy’s idea too.
Salut, David.
Just leave it on x hammers all the time unless you have a break or poa then switch it over to them for how ever long it takjes then switch ity back to x hammers.
I always make a note on it if I forget.

Oh right, I understand what you meant now
.
Is leaving your tacho on rest all the time ACTUALLY ILLEGAL or is it simply not following the rules as they were designed to be followed and whilst not complying with the law totally, is not breaking the law either?
If it is illegal I’d say a big portion of truckers are breaking the law 48 weeks a year.

Fully agree with you on your comments.

Just years of trying to convince people that we’re not ponfdlife only to have muppets come along and post that they have absolutely no idea of one of the most fundamental parts of our job.

Yes a big portion of drivers are breaking the law, and i beleave that you should show the correct mode for the activuty taking place, that is the law, not complying with the law totally would be breaking the law, either you comply or you dont
Having stated that, i may not allways be showing the correct activity on my mode switches, as sometimes it can be useful to use it to your advantage, but i do adjust the mode switch, tending to have it on crossed hammers most of the while and adjusting as and when nesacary or to suit ocne you get in the habit fo using them you will tend to remember to alter more thant you forget

Ouch a bit harsh, i hope you dont break any laws, stick to 40 mph and all that
i do know the law i just havnt had to bother up to now
oh and i dont speed
and when you’ve had a DRIVING job theres little point in moving the mode switch for 2 minutes
It ISN’T illegal to leave your tacho mode switch on “rest” all the time. The Ministry are likely to take a dim view of it though, its against the rules but not the law.
Personally, I leave it on rest, switching from rest to the appropriate mode, depending on what I’m doing at the time. Once I have finished that task, I switch the mode back to rest. Like Hitch says, “when you’re in a driving job, there’s little point in moving the mode switch for 2 minutes”.

If your biggest gripe about “Professional Drivers” is their poor knowledge or use of the tacho mode switch. Then I suggest opening your eyes a bit wider. If its only a minor gripe, don’t get so worked up about it. It isn’t illegal and there are plenty of other things much more worthy of your ire.
hitch your not the only one m8 thats needs to use it after god knows how long of working as a driver for the NHS that use the rest mode all the time
on monday i start a real job and have to remember to use a tacho in the right way to
as for Conor like Simon said if thats your only real gripe get a job in the NHS m8 that will opening your eyes they think they are above the law

Yup. I just laugh at all the fools chasing around taking money out of their own pockets whilst leaving themselves wide open to a £60 trousering from TrafPol.
Takes me 15 minutes longer to do 50 miles than alot of drivers and that’s 15 minutes more money in my pocket so over a day it’s possible for me to gain an extra 1-2 hours pay for doing the same run.
Still, if you want to charge around and earn up to £4000 a year LESS for doing the same job then who am I to argue?

Actually it is.
