I also was a "lorry driver, crane op, "door slammer"and tanker pool and done Falklands, Gulf 1 & 2 with the odd detachments here and there (Bosnia/ Kosovo)

Hi AL

I worked for the MOD as a Civvy driver. We were paid by grades as it was civil serviced based pay structure. The more skills we had the more money we had.

Our jobs were exactly the same as yours. MT controller, CO driver. Crash driver, Lorry Driver, Coach Driver, Crane driver. Bowser driver, Tanker pool. ADR all classes 1-9. Except 7. Forks driver (Henly) then JCB. I was also an NVQ assessor.
We could transfer to other bases such as Cyprus, and Belize. Airforce bases like Lakenheath, Mildenhall driving for the Yanks, but pay and pension by the Ministry of defence.

Did you ever get on detachment to Decimomannu, I was their 1997. (last deci). You may know some names on photo! Double click to see details.
I would take the Squadron to the line at 06:00, back to MT sit down in the Sun until 12:00 then shift change crew. Take the early shift to Poeto beach, back to camp take 2nd crew back from line to quarters, tea, and evenings in the German bar!

Others Goose Bay Labrador, Norway, and St Mawgan.

Marchwood Southampton for your crane courses? I drove a Jones, Smith, and Groves. You would have most probably been trained by Bud! and Alan.

Based Raf Marham. Retired 2004.

Annual Liberation Parade at Jersey.

I will post more later.

Leyland Daf now going out of service in quite large numbers, it will be interesting to see if the few remaining Bedfords outlast them

Unipower 8x8 bridging, the MOD should have gone for the tank transporter and get employment in this country

Hey got a few of these pictures, all trucks out in iraq

Heres some more guys, let me know what you think!
