I think they offence they clobber you with is “Obstructing Police”
Which is a farce since most Tale-vans these days have civvies manning them
A mate of mine got prosecuted for painting in black letters the words “speed trap” on an old white bog seat and propped it up against a lampost about 1/4 mile before ! 
Got his mugshot in the local paper too, don’t know how they caught him !
be carefull i went through one in north wales at the right speed i might add and the gits did me for no seat belt through the post

The warning of other vehicles is, technically illegal, and drivers have been succesfully prosecuted for doing so.But I would say up to a mile is good enough.

surely, by warning other drivers, they are slowing down, and you are technically preventing crime, saving the police time and resources
