Has anyone been caught doing over 40 by a mobile speed camera?
I was doing 33mph once in a 30, never heard anything back, and another time, 50mph on a single carrige road, mobile cam on the cornor but again nothing back
I got done on the A66 about 7 years ago, just at the point eastbound, where the dual carriageway ended near Barnard Castle, and went into single carriageway.
52 in a 40.
Ken.
Oh dear. The ruling is that they have to give you 10% plus 1mph (either 1 or 2mph…).
This seems to be the case as I’ve gone past mobile cameras doing near enough 45 in a 40 without any bother.
This is definately the case with fixed cameras.
About 3 years ago 48 in a 40, A41 Whitchurch.

I think what you mean is 10%+3 mph. But, as far as I know that is only a ACPO guidline and ONLY applies to police operated cameras.
Local council safety partnerships etc are not goverend by that rule.
Ask to see the certificate of calibration that they have to have issued on each day that they use it. As I understand , no cert no crime!!
MYTH ALERT

Has any-one been done by these “safety cameras” for an offence other than speeding?
There was one operating on the A96 the other day.I was in a line of traffic behind a coach travelling at 50mph.I slowed to 45 but white van man behind couldn’t wait and passed me on a ghost island at a crossroads. The island was painted red.He caught up with the coach and the two cars behind it.He had to wait for oncoming traffic to pass and then went for it,again on a red-painted ghost island. He pulled in in front of the coach, just missing more oncoming traffic, then spotted the camera van and stood on the brakes
Be interesting to know if the camera operator got him for two offences,or just the speeding.
I was caught doing 60 in a 7.5 tonner on the A9 ,its not just the fine and points but your car insurance goes up as well.
Its a legal requirement that you tell your insurance provider.

There is no such ruling, that is all a myth, if you are caught over then you can be done no matter how much over you are. lancs for example will quite happil see you in court for 31 in a 30 and have done many times.
I was done in Llangollen North Wales, two years ago, doing 35mph in a 30 limit by a camera van.I was offered to go on a speed awareness course, save the three points if you attended, no £ 60 fine, but if you go on course, cost £60. Went on course in Greenfield North Wales, 100 miles plus from my home, course lasted three hours, long winded lecture from a prat from BSM, saved the points, but if you get caught in next 3 years, no course. It is zero tolerance, no margin for error.
I got done 5 years ago 51 in a 40 coming off a dual carraigeway at Cockburnspath on A1 north of Berwick.
Ive heard about drivers being done for 41 in a 40 on A556 between M6 and M56 although its 4 lanes there is NO dividing central reservation so its just a normal road.

I too have heard these stories, I would be interested if anyone could post NIP showing the speed prosecuted at.
Simply don’t believe that anyone gets done for 1 mph.

The ACPO guidance is against prosecution for speeds below 10%+2mph over the limit, and I can assure you, that is not a myth!
That isn’t to say that an offence has not been committed - and if prosecution did follow, you would be guilty - but I’m not aware of any case in which anyone has been prosecuted for speeding alone below that margin.

guidance is the key word there fella, they are only guide lines, not policy.
i was once over taking an artic going down the a1, on the limiter of course! so proberly about a true 53 / 54 mph. as i get flashed in and start to move across, i spot a SAFETY camera van in the o/s mirror starting to come past me, once just infront he indicates and moves across, then drops anchor, to an indicated 50 mph (proberly 48 / 49mph). this made me to brake heavily and the truck i’d just overtaken. i guess he decided this course of action was SAFER than than me exceeding the speed limit by 3 / 4 mph. that is how blinkered some of these speed obsessed pricks can be. i was so close to reporting them, but obviously i’d be admiting speeding and you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see how that would play out!

Whilst that might be the acpo guide lines, thats just what it is a guide, I know several police forces that will happliy give you a ticket or send you to court for exceeding the speed limit by what ever margin. There are also a lot that won’t however they just garantee that you will be found guilty the greater the speed. Its is a myth that you can’t get done if you are going less than the guidlines.
43 in a 30 zone going through a 100yards of road works over the top of the A1 about 7 years ago, my last ticket.
The Police were stood in the middle of the road works, looked like workers.
