I was driving at 50mph on a 50mph road and didn’t see the Camara van until the last minute, my question is will i be done as I should of been doing 40mph or will it just be set at the 50mph limit for cars?
I’ve been through plenty of speed cameras at between 40 and 50 since the speed limit changed and I’ve yet to receive a speeding ticket. I’m guessing the police forces were told the speed limit for trucks was changing before the event so they could reconfigure their cameras or their computer systems that they check the registration numbers against, and even if you got a ticket you could simply write back and point out that the speed limit changed. Bottom line is if the speed limit is 50 or higher on a single-carriageway road and you were doing 50, you’re safe.
The day of the change, I took great pleasure in doing 50mph on the A556 to try and trigger the camera
Didn’t work of course.
Speed limit for a goods vehicle in excess of 7.5t on a single carriageway road is 50mph UNLESS SIGNED LOWER - now, this doesn’t mean it has to be a ‘sign’ such as a speed limit sign, although there normally would be one, but you know a built up area with street lights not more than 200 yards apart = 30mph.
Anything else and it’s 50mph unless signed lower.
So happy I got 3 points doing 42 at cocksburn. .will ideally never visit Scotland again
So now if you are doing 40 then you are hanging the job out.

Or (to play Devils advocate) you’re driving 20% under the limit.

Nah, they were hanging the job out doing 40 before the limit changed too they just haven’t got a vaguely plausible excuse now.

No, you might just be driving according to the road conditions. I rarely find I can do 50 on a single carriageway, though I usually do more than 40.

There is that but if you are on a straight piece of road like the A15 from Lincoln up to the M180 then you have no excuse not to do 50.
