Mobile network coverage

Hi, I’m just looking for some advise on which network provider has the “best” coverage around the uk?

Currently on EE which has been pretty good, however they are saying that now my contract is coming to an end the monthly payments will remain the same despite the handset now being paid for…. It’s not about the money, I just feel they are taking the ■■■■ and trying tie me down to another 2 year contract. IF I needed a new handset I would go and buy one.

Good 4G/5G coverage is the only thing I really care about.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve got a sim only 3 contract for £20ish. It’s unlimited data/calls/texts. Never had much of a dropout except in Tesco Purfleet. A black hole on any network.

I used Tesco (O2 I think). £10 per mth, Sim only. Cant remember what usage I could use. One month rolling contract. Drove all round England,Scotland and Wales. Worked fine. Even used it in Canary Islands and quite a bit of Europe. Holidays.

Tesco Purfleet blackspot  so true.

I’m with Tesco (which is basically 02) and signal is pretty good. Often get 5g signal too. It’s £9.50 per month for unlimited everything.

All networks will have flat spots.

I use a Tesco payg in Ireland. €15 gives you ‘unlimited’ everything, but has a fair use policy of 100gb. As an avid Netfixodian, I regularly go over that on my UK 3 sim.

It all depends on how much your paying and what allowance you get.
Currently the sim only deals with 3 are expensive. I am paying £23 per month on a sim only with 180gb unlimited min and calls. It was 18 before the price increase rpi. The same plan is now 30 quid.
If your paying around that much then keep it for a month untill new years deals.

You can also get a pay as u go sim on another network to check the coverage and speed before you take a contract out.

I would keep your current deal if in the 30s untill after xmas then take a sim only deal out

I found deals much better from a comparison site than I could get from each providers own website. I am with O2 now and vodafone before which was marginally better coverage in my experience.

I’m with O2 have been for years, the coverage used to be brilliant, in the last year or two I’ve noticed a drop in coverage with the 3g and 4g network…

I have been thinking of changing, but, as I’m still in a contract, because I upgraded my phone, I’m stuck with them!!

I’m still on SIM only with 3 unlimited everything with the price rise it went up to £20.90 90p up from the original £20 quid a month I was paying. Not locked into a contract anymore though so just keep paying it while I can keep that deal.

Try Smarty. It’s SIM only, uses Three’s network and it’s a rolling monthly contract which means if you try it and you decide at any point you don’t like it you’re free to move, no minimum 12 months bollox.

I am currently on Voxi, (Vodafone) and pay £10pm which gives me unlimited calls/texts and 30gig of data, but social media apps don’t count towards the allowance, which is brilliant. I used to be on Giff Gaff, (o2) but found their coverage a bit hit and miss whereas Voxi is not giving me any problems so far. It is also a 30 day rolling sim.

Ken.

£55 per month.
Unlimited data, calls, text etc.

I just can’t believe that now I’m at the end of the contract and the handset is paid for they are still charging the same monthly fee :open_mouth:

I could get a sim only deal for less from them but considering the above I’d rather chew on some wasps.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll look into the monthly rollover contracts and just buy a new handset when needed.

moneysavingexpert.com/cheap … /sim-only/

Use Billmonitor.com first to analyse your bills and tell you exactly how much data you use, not what you think you use. You’ll need to put in your online account login details but it’s a site backed by OFCOM so not dodgy. Most of us, myself included, vastly over-estimate how much we use so end up taking out contracts with more data and therefore higher cost than we need to do.

Your network is talking nonsense, just tell them you want to go SIM only, you can do monthly or 12 month contract.

I’m with EE & often don’t upgrade when contract is up, I just switch to SIM only until a phone that I want comes out.

O2 split the bill, one part is the phone and the other is the tariff, once the phone is paid off all you then pay is the tariff, I have a payg sim aswell as contract, payg is £10 month with unlimited text and phone calls and 7gb data, which can roll over every month…

How come in the OP it says I’m not interested in cost, yet every reply is about the cost?
I’ve recently changed from the Vodafone network to the O2 network and found coverage to be far worse.

This is a summary of which networks.

Maybe because I think they are taking the ■■■■? I wonder how many people don’t know any better and just keep paying twice as much they should? At this point in time they are charging £55 for a monthly sim….

Yea I know £30 a month is pocket change. Call me old fashioned if you want but it’s more about the principle of it. Loyal customer for many years and first opportunity they get, they’re trying to rip me off.

Personally I feel starlink is the better option for me. Hopefully it will become more widely available soon.

Not to me! I pay 1p per month for the next 6 months for 12 GB!
Starlink $599 +$110 per month! Will be nice when it’s reasonable.

Don’t hink there’s much difference in coverage these days
Over the years I’ve used ee smarty and O2 never had any signal problems.

Once your contract is up you can go sum only. I have one on ee 14 a month 80gig of data and unlimited calls and texts. Go in the shop and ask for the best deal.
