here’s a couple of ‘oldies’ for you , the Albion / hydrocon talisman was a complete beast of a thing to drive 19 tonnes no rear suspension and a Leyland 400 + 5 speed splitter box , anything over about 25/30 and you really were living on the edge. the coles had an AEC 505 and went like stink , but took forever to assemble(so it seemed to me!).

Some Italian-input…Cristanini TG320

This is a mid 80’s shot in the depot at Milnthorpe of two of Hudson Engineers of Sandside cranes unloading new Task trailers which we have brought down from the ■■■■■■■■■■■ factory. Hudsons were the first in our area to start crane hire in the early 60’s after they had disposed of their haulage interests in 1960 it appeared to be a good fit for their heavy vehicle repair business and I think they did very well with Cranes as there was a lot of new construction going on in our area during the 60’s and 70’s.They started with strut cranes which took time to assemble the jib but then got onto the telescopic models which are pictured here in the shot. Hudsons fairly lost their way in the 90’s and one or two other firms had got going in the Crane hire job in a big way but for over 20 years Hudsons had a virtual monopoly in the area. When we had trailers to un-load we got them to call in at finishing time when they were on their way back to Sandside so it kept the price down and suited us both, apart from the fact that Hudsons used our stores for Scania,Volvo and Trailer spares for their vehicle repair call outs, saved them a 100 mile round trip to Carlisle to get the spares from the dealers ! Cheers Bewick.

This an old Freightliner crane truck from the time when they were making 50 trucks a year. All their vehicles came from donor trucks; this one started life as a Fageol.

Canadian built Pacific chassis-cab with Grove crane. Been standing a while.

A handy piece of kit. Go any where, pull anything and unload it yourself when you get there.
