So having a quick browse about after seeing a job advertised I see that mobile cranes are exempt from both EU tacho and domestic rules.
If for instance, I drove a crane exempt for the week had Saturday off and was asked because I have class 1 as well to move some ballast for a job on Sunday, would I 1) have to put my card in the artic as it is own goods (dirty great crane weights) or is it out of scope and 2) then have to stick to EU rules, or even domestic rules for the next week? Confusing myself for something I probably wont even do but interested to know.
Driving the ballast truck would be under the EU regulations, so that would mean you need to make records of work / rest for the previous 28 days. This record can be either via manual entry or written on the back of a printout or wax chart.
You would then have 144 hours (6x24) from when you started the shift in the truck before you must start a weekly rest period of 45 hours, it possible it could be less, but can be complicated to work out. That is the only part of the EU regulations you are under, other than you must have at least 9 hours off after finishing in the truck
Cheers, bit of a ball ache. Basically need to make records all the time just in case Im asked to jump in an artic 3 or 4 times a year for cover. I assume I would have needed to take at least a 24 rest beforehand too, not for instance work mon-sat then jump in artic for a 7th shift Sunday morning
