Missing the open road

Sitting at my desk, watching the sun through the window and thinking how nice it used to be driving over Europe in weather like this.

That got me thinking to whether i would go back on the road, and what sort of job could tempt me away from the desk?

And i came up with the answer that if it was purely UK work, it would have to be containers or tippers, with decent well specced units and pretty much back on a Fri afternoon. Would do the occasional Sat run in, but shouldn’t be an expectation.

Euro work, again would have to be decent kit, but more flexible with hours/days.

I guess i am never going to find my mecca…jobs like that don’t seem to exist anymore…which means that i doubt if i will ever do more than the occasional agency shift to boost the xmas kitty…done far too many runs in crap kit, for crap bosses and crap money to want to do it full time again.

Personally i would find this heat too much to bare on any truck driving job, unless it had aircon, as you say its tough trying to find a decent haulier, with good kit, and a decent wage, there are a few about, and im not too fussy but if the right job came up i would be willing, had so many offers that didnt materialize, doesnt mean im not looking, but i dont really want full time anymore but one trip a week will do.

I’m just taking the plunge back into HGV work after a 5 ish year layoff.
I’ve just sent off my D2 and D4 and ordered my shiny new digi card.
I’ll see what I can turn up work-wise.

dunno what road your thinking of , most are bloody well shut at night anyway
