When loading a particular internet page - in this case Autotrader - part of the page is overlapped by other sections leaving a nice empty space down the side of the page, rendering certain bits useless (ie the search button and options). It wont let me activate ‘search’ by keyboard, as opposed to mouse either
It only happens on Autotrader, as far as I am aware (its on our kids PC but his nextdoor neighbour has the same problem) and all works perfectly well on mine.
This is what it looks like, and any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
What web browser are you using?
Paul
I’ve seen this happen with Firefox sometimes. If your using that try using Internet Explorer instead to see if that helps.
It is Internet Explorer.
This usually happens when web page designer isn’t conserned about web standards or browser doesn’t support all those “desing” standards which are used on that page. Internet Explorer, for example, is well known for it’s only partial implementation of those recommendations. There are also cases where some part of recommendation is implemented but not in the way it was meant to. Sometimes this creates funny situations where web page works properly with new browser but not with older version which supports same “element” but in different way
Your problem is most likely some kind of derivate from these and I suggest you to upgrade your browser or get better browser
I think that also some pop-up/ad filter might be responsible for this kind of problems. Not likely, but it’s possible.
Thanks for the input guys. As I say , I have no problems at all with this, but Steve does, and yet he and I run identical systems on identical PC’s. Thats the confusing part of it all,
Are you both using the same screen resolution? Most websites are 1024x768 but if you have a widescreen monitor, like my laptop does then it runs at a higher screen resolution i.e 1280x1024.

Ah, Mine was set to 800x600, where it works best and his was set higher
Somebody had been fiddling with the buttons and turned it up…
now back down to where it should be.
Sorted.
Thanks Guys, Much appreciated.

That’s a good example of a very badly designed website then if it works at some resolutions and not others…

That’s not something I would have expected from an Organisation as well known as AutoTrader.
Glad that fixed it.
I suspect the site was developed a couple of years ago and never been updated.
As an aside, if you use Firefox and see this problem, hold down the left Ctrl key and hitting either + or - will increase or decrease the font size. Saves arsing around with the screen resolution.
Cheers

Slightly off on a tangent…
I have been a fan of Firefox for quite a while now but since the latest version I am having a few problems; a couple of my favourite sites now just load as blank pages, my Spamfighter can’t complete the updates, Gmail can’t open with Firefox - I can sort all of these problems by using Win IE, which kinda defaets the object really…
