just had a small accident whilst trying to reverse park the artic in a truck stop. no damage to my vehicle but have dislodged the other trucks light cluster as was low speed. the other driver is fine no injuries and seems fine apart from I have woken him up.
as an agency driver what is going to happen?
have exchanged details.
Will this affect my car insurance?
Will I get the sack as its my 2nd week on the job?
Can’t guarantee you won’t get the sack, but it’s likely that the agency and the company you’re placed at might actually look more favourably towards you. Accidents happen, but you have been honest about it and not tried to deny or hide it like lots would. This will show them that you are an honest and trustworthy employee, and worth keeping a hold of.
It shouldn’t affect your car insurance, as any claim would be on the company’s insurance instead of your personal policy. (On a slightly related note, tell your insurance that you’re a hgv driver, if you haven’t already, as it might lower your current policy costs!)
The agency won’t “sack” you. They might not send you to that client again, but that depends on what the client says. Anyone can have a minor accident, so long as you don’t keep on having them you should be fine.
You do technically need to declare it to your car insurance.
But if the damage is very minor there’s a chance whoever owns the truck will fix it and not bother claiming, so there will be no record, so if you don’t declare it they might not ever know.
I queried CUE recently to find out what work accidents they know I’ve had. There was a non fault on there where someone reversed in to my bus, but the incidents where I broke a third parties (parked coach) mirror and scraped a fence weren’t on there. Both very low value incidents.
The agency wont sack you - you’re a bum on a seat and its surprising what you can do and still get work (I know ).
Tail light is prob 100 quid if that so companies will come to an agreement usually and not go near insurance (the excess is way more than that).
I’m all for telling insurance about proper claims but stuff like that, damaged mirrors etc personally I wouldn’t bother with. Neither company is likely to tell insurance as they don’t want their “accident rate” increasing their premiums.
In an ideal world and not long ago would be a case of apologise your company repairs the light be the end of it.
But these days who knows people seem to make a big issue even over the smallest scratch so.who knows.
Personally I wouldn’t worry about it.

Only thing I would worry these days a lot of company’s expect you to pay the 1st £200 / £500.
Basically what ever there excess insurance is.
Is wrong in my eyes but more and.more places do this now.
Although being on agency you should be ok. As your contracts Gona be different to someone on a permenat contract
photos submitted to the boss, accident form completed.
as far as I’m aware no action being taken as was an accident. just need to ensure I don’t do it again. suppose it is a learning curve.
am a bit more cautious about reversing now but that is not a bad thing.

If you can’t reverse just have your
Break on the diesel pumps
write down in a notepad anything and everything that you recall, minor details such as what words were said/ what the other guy was wearing, his face describe all. you might not need it but id write it now while fresh in your mind
