Wilkinsons sell anti bacteria/germ wipes for only 50p.
Ideal for a cab clean.I use hand sterilser gel.
Only one person has mentioned the possibility of mites or fleas. This is no reflection on previous drivers although I don’t know how they get there in the first place.
When I was the manager at Toray we had one driver whose cab was always spotless and, as a general rule it was one man one vehicle there. However, he came home one week and complained of multiple bites. It was professionally investigated and fleas were discovered in the mattress.
The solution was a complete fumigation on the Saturday morning and by Monday the problem was solved. I think the mattress was replaced too, from memory.
As long as I didn’t have to sleep in it, I wouldn’t be overly fussy about it.
I can’t understand trampers with dirty cabs though. Surely they can spare 5 minutes of there 11 hours parked in a layby to give the cab the once over.
Here’s a picture of one of our cabs, it’ the interior wall behind the bunk and it’s only 14 months old FFS, it’s grease just in case you can’t make it out.
A ■■■■■■ of a night trunker once put half a bale of straw on my bunk for his horse , he bought it in the services , he could not understand why I was going mad
, he never did use my truck for the night trunk again
.
He did use another drivers drawbar trailer once because he was starting earlier than the said driver , and his had a a broken sussie lead, so he demounted his trailer and the other drivers trailer and then took the other drivers trailer , without calling rescue , I must admit I did feel bad when the other driver smacked him one ,
.
My mate has a different unit everyday,he opened the locker above his head one day and half a meatball subway sarny and a empty bottle of diet coke hit him on the napper,he says another favourite trick is to pull the interior curtains down so they can be used as a pillow ,■■■ burns in steering wheels and broken air vents are popular along with chewing gum stuck in strange places, its vandalism and we wonder why employers are the way they are,
A bale of straw. You were lucky he did not stop at the livestock market and buy of few sheep, goats or pigs to put on the bunk.
Get pulled by Dvsa, and a pigs hooter is sticking out the cab door.

Get stopped by the police and that could be considered a public order offence.

i’ve finally got my cab reasonably clean, despite the previous occupants efforts to make it look like a pig stye.
however what really gets me is the sticky worn out steering wheel!! its a three yr old daf cf.
doesnt matter how often i clean it,or what with, the outer covering has broken down and its always tacky and horrible.anyone got any ideas to help with this ? i really dont want a halfords style steering wheel cover lol.and a new wheel is out of the question!!I can only assume this is a problem with DAF steering wheels, it’s the same with all ours that are more than a couple of years old. Outer covering all worn away, so they are pretty naff to hold.
Try taking a wet wipe to them, you’ll be horrified
I suspect the problem might actually be caused by repeated wiping/cleaning with solvents etc. “My” CF is 5 years old and has covered 720k km. While the rim of the steering wheel has worn and is now quite smooth (lost the moulded texture), it is not tacky or sticky at all.
I wonder if it used to have the leather trim? Mt AAlpha did and when I removed it it was tacky for a while. In the end I smeared some swarfega around it and wiped off with a paper towel. Before any of the cab happy chappies shout “vandalism” the trim stitching was breaking up and irritating my hands. The fake wooden trim is still in situ I believe.

i’m more inclined to think its been caused by not being cleaned-ever-in its first two years.all this dirt has acted like a cutting paste through the plastic.if you had seen the state of it when i got it,you might be inclined to agree.i seriously doubt the cab had been cleaned at all in two years!! my old 06 plate cf(that i had from new) was over five yrs old when it was pensioned off and was like brand new inside
