Did you make it?
Biglew74:
Anyone know roughly how much milage you get out of a full tank of Diesel in a G280 Scania?I only ask as I’ve been up to Scotland and parked up 200 miles from depot with the fuel indicator just above the red.
Will I have enough? How much do I spend to put in if needed?
Noob post
Cheers

1 depends on size of your fuel tank, loaded truck or empty etc etc., good tip is never allow your fuel level to get to red line as then you start running high risk of sucking up dirt from bottom of the fuel tank…I think I understand why your asking, depot probably have cheaper bunkered fuel, and bosses prefer you only fuel up if required. In that case fill up to half point on gauge or half tank if gauge cant be trusted, use a dipstick ( no pun intended ). Truck on!..If cornered by your boss to explain why you filled up using the fuel card, tell him you did not want to run risk of a empty fuel break down on route, saving boss money.
Its mileage.
Unbelievable but not too surprising.
The old hands are regularly claiming on here how they are very willing to pass on advice or tips to the newbie in the yard or on the road but as soon as a question is asked the usual abuse, snootiness and bum steers appear.
If you think the question is a urine taking one why on earth would you feed the troll■■?
Just ignore and move along and do llikewise if you feel the question is beneath you or or you are unwilling to help. Is your free time really so worthless?
To the O.P. I think I t’s a very fair question and not an unusual predicament even for some experienced drivers and certainly I have it from time to time.
The same model truck can come with a variety of tank sizes so unless you have filled it before yourself no one can really tell you what’s in it. Fuel gauges today are accurate and many tanks have the capacity stamped on the top surface.
Too late now but for future reference here is a back of ■■■ box calculation:
Your truck is doing at least 10 miles per gallon so you will use up to 20 gallons to get back 200 miles to the yard. At about 4.5 liters per gallon that is 90 liters and you will be back in the yard with a little more than you have now I reckon.
Going into the red is not a problem but don’t over do unless you know your truck very well. Over do it and you will know the difference between squeaky bum and really ■■■■■■■■ it.
On the other hand you could pretend to be brain dead and just fill it up
Since you went to the trouble of asking the question I doubt that is your style.

I asked if he had a tape measure, that can tell you how big the tank is, how much fuel is left, how much the lorry has used so far provided you filled it before you set off!
All the answers are there.

or
just fill it to the neck anyway…job done
It really depends on the company rules, I worked somewhere where you could only have 100 litres from the depot tanks, and another where you could not put more than 100 litres in when away from the depot in the UK. Both were sacking offences if you went against their rules.
Buying oil was a no no
However you could ring the office for authority 24/7 in emergencies.

Stop the ■■■■■■ bus, I want to get off.
Point 1 your driving a truck
Point 2 you have a fuel card
Point 3 you will get upto 700 litres ago on said card.
Point 4 you’ve got to refuel at some point during your trip so why wait until your empty
Point 5 you won’t make it as a driver if you ask stupid questions that you probably already know the answer to.
Point 6 asking dumb questions is like lamb to the slaughter.
Point 7 still thinking about this 1
Point 8 nurse
Point 9 is there really an exit from reality
Thanks driver I’ll get off just around the corner.
