Mike Sargent's "Rogues' Gallery" of drivers on M.E

Hi All

I have found another photo sorry the quality is rather poor but good enough for you to scratch your heads for a bit again scroll right :arrow_right: :arrow_right:

Just a little story about myself and Mr Sargent which will probably jog his memory when he reads this; about 1980 I was subbing for Radclive Transport out of Faringdon in Oxfordshire and looking forward (not) to a week-end parked up at some services on the A3 between Koln and Frankfurt when in rolls Mike, he was driving for Fransens in Rotterdam and had a load of fruit on and going straight back to his yard.
Come and spend the rest of the week-end at my place in Holland he says and I’ll drop you off on the way back so off we go. On arrival at the Dutch border in the early hours he has to do import customs so Fransens agent takes the paperwork into the German Zoll closely followed by us, the customs officer is fast asleep with his chair tilted back and arms crossed on his chest so the agent taps on the window resulting in the customs man sliding straight down off the chair and disappearing from view under the counter banging his head on the way.
I found this so amusing that the agent had to make me leave the office before the customs man made life difficult.
Thanks for a great week-end Mike far better than being stuck on the parkplatz. Nowadays it would be 1 englishman and 100 east europeans parked up.

Second photo, Londra camping Istanbul. Second male from left looks like Dennis McCarthy and third male from left Micky Chinock.
regards Jamie.

A Scot Lost in the Valley’s.

Here’s a couple or three pictures from my mate JJs collection, Don’t know too much about them as I wasn’t there but I thought some of you guys might recognise the ones I don’t know.

That’s JJ (ex Pan Express, Essex Int and a few more along the way) sitting with his head in front of the trailer plate with Dave Telford sitting next to him giving a wave.

Don’t know about this mottly crew but I think the guy on the left might be Micky Butler, probably about 38 years since I worked with Mick so I might be wrong.

Micky??, Dave Telford and JJ, Don’t know the guy on the right unless maybe it’s Taffy (yeh, I know, there’s plenty of them, but it looks like the one who worked on Essex ■■?).

There is a pic of JJ’s motor on the “trucking in the 80’s (international)” thread, just been posted, reg number is same. Pan Express colours.

Regards,

Brookie.

Hi Rattlesnake Dave, Next time you see JJ please give him my regards. Ask him if he remembers when he was on for Jack Harris (Essex) on our way home, the day we were in Beaune Services in France and he asked me to let him drive my motor for a while, as he fancied driving a real good sorted Motor ( my Old 111, KFU733P), he drove it from Beaune up to Auxerre. I drove his up behind him. Good old times.
Cheers, Archie.

Spoke to JJ today Archie and he sort of remembers the time you were asking about but the poor old s0d is 70 this year so his memory isn’t what it was. He said hello to you and any other guys who remember him anyway.

Foxie, was Roly Long a Welshman, only when I went to Truckfest in 2003, there was a welsh guy there with the Essex Int crew who had worked on Howell’s and Reavell when I was there, and he recognised me. The bloke in the red shirt looks very much like him.

Anyone remember JJs door panel artwork

Anyone for leapfrog…

The only Roly Long that I knew came from Hampshire, he was not a Welshman.

He is on the left in this photo.

Is that Tony Baker, far right wearing the light blue jacket and ■■■ in hand ■■

What a good man he was, i looked after his truck for many a year.

Steve.

Hi Steve
No, it is not Tony, and if you look really close at the picture you will see that this gent is smoking a tipped cig and Tony only smoked Van Nelle Zware Shag roll ups

By the way it would have been his birthday on 5th March. I always call Gwen to say Hi on these sort of days… He is really missed by so many and was a fabulous friend…
