Middlesbrough work? (Thinking of moving)

Take a run up with an address book and see what work is kicking about.

Could always secure work and stop up in a B&B till you move.

Aren’t Bertschi from that neck of the woods? Don’t know anything about them pay and conditions wise but they run a fairly newish fleet and seem to have plenty of trampers.

Is another one for the dead mans shoes list- (my list wasn’t exhaustive)

and in reply to Daz… I didnt name anyone - in any area there are companies best avoided - word goes round amongst the lads.

I simply pointed out that with so many looking for work up here at this time, if you get a start no questions asked straight away if may be worth wondering why the local lads are not queuing at the door.

I am not that detatched from the industry that I dont hear the rumours - I am just sensible enough not to publish them

If you do move up scarab, I strongly suggest you look to move to some of the outlying villages around Stockton/Middlesbrough rather than in the town itself or the estates, You may be surprised at what you can get for your money housing wise a two bedroom detached house with garage opposite me went a few weeks ago for £68,000, ours is a three bedroom semi detached, in a very quiet cul de sac in a small village front and rear garden and a near 60 foot drive and we got it 5 years ago for £82,000… there is the slight issue of the huge chemical works less than a mile away- but for a nice solid house in a nice village where everyone knows each other and has a great local social scene but a ridulously small price… its a small thing to put up with.

I understand its not for everyone but in this day and age to be to afford a larger house and be able to feel secure enough to be able to send my 7 and 9 year old out to play throughout the village unsupervised is worth the minor irritation of the Wilton plant.

Its not all doom and gloom up here- there a lot of very good people - and very welcoming- but you need to have work before coming up… theres a reason it so cheap up here no-one has any money

Why shouldn’t a Northeast driver not try for work in West Yorkshire then Alex? Is it a closed shop or summat? :open_mouth:

Why would a company want to employ a driver that lives 1 1/2 hrs away when there are plenty on your doorstep to choose from

You have a tramper from Middlesbrough working out of Leeds, you have to find enough work to keep him away all week but if you have a driver from Leeds then the pressure is off as he is local.

I worked for Inta site…if i was back at the yard near Goole i didnt get a nite out for it…but i didnt have to commute down every week…i took the truck home at the end of every week loaded for scotch or a local around here then back down to goole until Fri…it worked out well because i had a nearly 1 3/4 hrs headstart if going north so that meant that i could get back to goole to load whereas a driver leaving goole wouldnt get back that nite…my advice to you is find something first before committing to moving to this neck of the woods…theres not a lot about.

You could try George allinson in Darlington, good kit, money ok, plenty of work.

Saw him advertising today for a job. Store deliveries, £120 week days £150 weekend days. 12 hour shifts.

Pimpdaddy:

The Mrs is thinking of us moving up North, and I have to say I’m probably not adverse to the idea.

I really hate it up north, I’d never move there unless it was top money guaranteed. London, midlands & Northamptonshire are the best places to be positioned for work in my opinion. People’s attitudes up north stinks, what kind of a man are you anyway to be told where to move to by the mrs-grow a pair…

Shame you can’t afford to live there on a truck drivers wage.

If you find everyones attitude up north stinks, it suggests the problem lies with you…

Great job if you dont want a life…i did this for six months and it nearly cost me my marriage…working 12 midnight till 12 midday…my shift pattern was fri, sat, sun, mon…off tues…in wed, thurs, fri, sat, sun, mon, off tues…in wed…off thurs…then the shift pattern would start again…you never got a fri, sat, sun off…the job is ■■■■■■■■■■■ why he cannot keep drivers on it…and if you leave dont expect to be paid as they take £150 off your last pay to cover ‘induction costs’…which basically is going out with another driver for half a shift and a quick look around the RDC…absolute ■■■■ company to work for…if there was a problem on a weekend…you could ever get hold of the lad (owners son)who ran the contract as he would be out on the drink and when you eventually did get hold of him he would be ■■■■■■■

ya didn’t let them get away with it did ya?

Everybody pays it…i was going to look into it with a solicitor but i didnt think it would be worth my while…even if you drop a shift your fined £50 by them…they are a waste of space and wouldnt recommened anybody to work for them…a mate of mine still works there and he is as sick as a parrott because doing those shifts means you cannot do anything…by the time you get home and some dinner and a shower its 13.30 then bed get up say at 20.00 then you are just getting ready to go back to work…or if you do 12 midday till 12midnite thats the same…■■■■ job and a ■■■■ employer…stay away.

as in, you ring in sick then you get fined £50? or is it done on a loss of bonus type scheme? i’m far from a legal expert but, on the induction deduction, i thought an employer could only deduct money from your wages if you agree to it. i would of thought it’s something that could be sorted out with a letter from the CAB with no need to involve a solicitor.

By the way - talk about something you understand ya soft Southern Nancy Boy…

Used to stop in digs years ago, the laurel arms (or hotel) iirc and always ended up in the bongo club, some of the best nights out I’ve had anywhere

Never heard such rubbish in my life, been there 5 years and you don`t know what you are talking about, for a start, the £150 is contractual and if you leave and mess the company about for under 3 months , I know as i read my contract. The lad on the job was on call 24 hours a day, you talk about not having a life and you on good money. You must be one of those who left after a couple of weeks cause it was “hard” work, the fukl 150 comes off then.
The core lads who are there can do the job and those that leave are thjose that are given a chance to prove themselves, normally begging for the job when they are out with me and other drivers.
Give it a rest, you were useless on the job and all deductions are contractual…you just may have to learn to read.
If you who I think you are then you need not mention anyone else being "Peed " on the job.

I know a few lads who work for Allinsons, and there’s a lot of drivers who’ve been there for years. Speaks volumes to my mind.
