Middle East - Not Astran!

Do you know if the DOW motor was Stockport or Swindon based?

Sorry I don’t know. I can’t read what it says on the door.

Dow were from Stockport

I think suedehead2 was asking whether that particular lorry was based at DOW’s Stockport depot or the Swindon one.

Great pic here (posted on the ERF Clearing house thread yesterday by vwvanman0). Clearly on the Middle-East run. The diagonal stripe and yellow cab suggests that it might have been one of Brown-Wharriers RHD B-series ERFs. Anyone know its exact provenance?

EDIT to add that I’ve just found these matching pics in my files:

I thought you would already have a photo of it, there’s a guy dumping lots of photos on the fb middle east page so im keeping an eye out for anything interesting although its a mishmash of countries.

Do you remember those fluffy looking things in Saudi that flashed across in front of you in the headlights, about the size of a tennis ball with smiley faces ??

At first, I thought I was tripping or it was time to stop - it was quite a while before I was told they were Camel Spiders - weird as f*ck

Rick Griffin’s eyeball is the closest I’ve seen to the real thing:

I don’t think I ever saw one - not to identify, anyway. Funnily enough, I did a fair bit of camel trekking in my time and I never saw spiders then either!

Long-haul truckers learn to get on with anyone. Just don’t push them too hard!

Iranian Transtar:

Second photo shows what looks like a 290 with a 240 air intake!

This must have been one of Vick’s last 12m tilts as it is a 3-ax. The canopy states Europe so EV had probably pulled off Middle East by then - someone will know! But that unit had done M/E. It had a 240 Gardner and was ex-Tony Jones (the Jo in VIJORE).
