Livestock as well I think, decent motors, nearly all Scania.
don’t know about pay but see them around alot one base nr andover just off A303, should think its quite long hours away a lot. head office is up yorkshire way
Metcalfes do a lot of haulage for the firm I work for. Very reliable and always very helpful. Based in Hawes, North Yorks but they run all over Britain. Can’t comment what they are like to work for, but I get the impression they are old school.
seen quite a few over the water, mainly running down the corridor
They do a lot of work moving military vehicles around the UK and Europe , kit always looks well looked after .

Might have got the wrong Metcalfe … there are 2 … Metcalfe Farms based nr Leyburn - blue wagons maily Scanias doing lowloaders … then Metcalfes @ Hawes mainly red wagons - does allsorts.

Two different companies , The Rustler .
W. Metcalfe & Sons , Appersett , Hawes have a mixed-coloured fleet , with other contractors working for them .
Old-established , and family-run business.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Not sure if they are connected. We have done work with both firms, although most with W Metcalfe.
I know Simon Johnson who drives their 4 axle Scanny tractor unit. Will ask him when I see him.
The gear is always looking smart.

Hi guys dont know anything about terms and conditions with Metcalf Farms but i do beleive that they have just bought out Boarhunt transport in Fareham and the are enquiring about the area for a yard to park 27 motors. This is just the transport and not the rescue and recovery side of the business.Regards Todd
quite a few of their motors have writing on the side/back saying working together with DSV or similar.
I once saw 3 Metcalfe Farm motors in Sofia (4 yrs ago) they were at a set of lights on the ring road, i was on the limiter going the other way with a Police ■■■■■■(not the car. 3 motorbikes), blues and two’s and everything
im not too sure but i spoke to someone who services the wagons for the yard in catterick (gatherley ind est) and he said the pay is £6.50 hour or around that mark , apparantley drivers always complaning because they rather spend money on private plates and good looking trucks … but then again he didnt work for them so not sure how true it is or not …
cant see drivers who have the skill of roping/sheeting chaining stuff, doing overwidth/length/weight stuff are on 6.50an hr.
I did a few weeks holiday cover for metcalfe farms around 18 months ago.
I think they have around 20-30 units on low loader work including 3-4 heavies. At the time most were based on the family farm on the outskirts of leyburn but they also ran 5-6 out of DanAbb’s yard on the A303 near micheldever.
I cant remember the exact details of the payscheme but i think it was overtime for anything after 40 or 50 hours. They liked you to run maximum hours but that’s no bad thing when paid by the hour. I was clearing between £500-£600 a week starting monday and finishing saturday lunchtime running out of the micheldever yard with 5 nights out.
They do a lot of military movements as well as new kit out of komatsu and HM plant so for low loaders it pretty clean work. It’s also worth bearing in mind that al trailers are kitted with sheets and will be used at some point.
The kit although not new was tidy and extremely well looked after. Also I found the all staff I dealt with to be both friendly and knowedgeable.
I was offered a full time position with them and had it not been for the opportunity of the job I’m currently in, medical scanners, I would not have hesitated in taking up that offer.
I notice that toddmck said that they had taken over the transport side of Boarhunt’s. When I was working for them Boarhunt’s did quite a bit of military work for them and also it was offered to me that they could arrange truck parking for me at Boarhunt’s as it would have been considerably closer to my home so I guess there was a good relationship between the two companies.
Cheers
