Just a word of warning, car insurance companies seem to load anyone connected with the scrap metal industry. Obviously if they don’t know they can’t but it’d probably come out somehow in the event of a claim.

How do they find out? When I do a quote and employment is asked, its always HGV driver and ROAD haulage, never ever been asked what I carry!

The majority also ask what type of industry you work in, i.e you are a lorry driver in the scrap metal merchants.
You could fake it & say general haulage etc, but when it comes time to claim . . . they’ll find out.

I always state recycling as employment on car insurance forms…everything that’s comes into our yard is recycled.
I’m sure they specifically mention scrap metal industry.
My car was stolen from outside my workplace Pike Metals Ltd or whatever would give it away.

Your insewerance Co’ is going to want all of the same details that you have already given to the Police. You can lie to the Police about where your car was stolen from, but to be frank, I’d rather lie to the Police than an insewerance Co’.
Whatever level of respect you afford the call centre monkeys at your insewerance broker of choice, please bear this in mind. In certain circumstances they face a hugely ginormous £bill to put right your fukwittery, if they can possibly at all avoid that humongous payout for any slight reason whatsoever, they will.

That’s just one example, these things have a nasty habit of coming to light somehow.
“Oh because you failed to mention that you are a lowlife dealing in scrap metal, we have invalidated your insurance policy and won’t be paying out after all”
They seem to like finding ways of wriggling out of paying up. I’m sure that whilst some insurers will load against it, others will give you cover at sensible prices. I know that I’d get mine right for peace of mind.
Are you sure that you want to be involved with this side of haulage, you will be dealing with the caravan utilisers and other low lifes.
