Merry Xmas from VOSA

Speeding up the Northbound A34 yesterday doing 56 whilst overtaking another lorry I just caught sight of a VOSA vehicle in a layby having a good look at me.
Sure enough a minute later they were in front of me escorting me to Abingdon weighbridge. First time I’ve been stopped and going by the stories on here I was expecting the worst cos I didn’t have a rear plate on
Onto the weighbridge, digi card out, light checks etc. Guy comes back out with card and guess what he said?

“Thank you Driver that will be all, you can go on your way”!!!

Lucky you. No bending over then ?

Nope just as polite as I could be.

Probably figured that if you were prepared to break one law (speed limit) then you might be prepared to do the same for other laws :bulb:

You sort of telegraphed ‘pull me’ IMO

Definately Rog and I was fully expecting the worst and would have had no complaints.
Just thought I’d post a positive response re VOSA.

Contrary to many posts on here, VOSA or other authorities do not always have your pants down.

I doubt they pulled you for your speed, more likely the guilty look of panic on your face.

Think of it on the positive side, you may have gained some OCRS plus points

i usually pass 2 or 3 open vosa sites a day, never been pulled recently until last friday.got a good going over, but got to say they were very polite, quick and answered questions i had.no faults found, but it has given me peace of mind that my truck and tachos are ok.
just goes to show,a good tug once in a while does wonders

depends who’s doing the tugging

They are normally in the same spot every morning, saw them pull in a French truck this morning, not sure what but it was a big rigid, looked like it might have been a livestock transporter. As i went over the bridge by the weighbridge i saw a queue waiting to be bent over.

Carlisle tonight, 8pm ish, big vosa car slip road, me (irish reg), Dutch reg daf and a DHL bomb by, well we bombed by the DHL, next thing the orange lights are flying up by, he goes in front of me but nothing then in front of Dutchman and gives him teh pull FOLLOW ME… Dont think it was an actual DUTCH firm tough as the DAF was Right Hand drive. 1st time ive seen this supposed “24 hr” Carlisle Weighbridge in MONTHS…

You where nice and polite? The whole VOSA scenario and checking thing we have is based on the premise that we have lots of foreign lorries, or to put that correctly “lorries on international journeys” that are blatantley flouting the law. And they’re the ones they are targetting. According to VOSA statistics probably something like 90% of UK drivers responses should be positive !!
