The skylight in the mercedes i’ve been driving tilts up about 20/30 degrees electricly, is there any way of releasing the latch so it can open all the way as a means of an emergency escape. I’ve had a look but can’t figure a way of releasing it.
Seems a poor design if it can’t be opened
I’m pretty sure it doesn’t open mate.
I’m not trying to be funny here, but why on earth would you opt to escape via the sunroof? There are still two very big doors, or failing that a hefty work boot kick to the windscreen would pop it straight out.
The new Volvo which i’m a fan of has one of those little pointy things that breaks glass easily.
Just thought I’d mention it.
99% sure its only tilt, not a tilt n slide and no way of removing it with out spanners/ screwdrivers etc
funny enough my Actros mp2 had a slider but the later versions had just the tilt
Even if it did open properly which it doesn’t you’d have to be teeny to fit through it, as it’s not the biggest of sunroofs!

You remind me of my father-in-law; always thinking of the worst case scenario.
If he stops in a hotel, he rehearses all of his possible escape routes in the event of a fire.
Sensible? Maybe.
I prefer to be a bit more optimistic though.
Emergency escape■■? And you say you drive a HGV for a living?
Maybe the op works for stobarts and knows is only a matter of time until he smashes his new motor up

What about if a door becomes the ceiling?
I helped a driver out of his cab a few weeks ago. It was on the passenger side but he climbed up and out of the drivers window. Luckily he wasn’t hurt.

I parked in a service area the other day behind a trailer then within a couple of minutes two other curtain sider wagons parked either side of me, no problem with getting out there but I thought this would not be a nice place to be if you were sandwiched in in a accident, the only way out would be up

Good point, well made! . However, in that scenario I’d go back to my windscreen escape route, the truck is laid on it’s side so I imagine the cost of a new screen aint gonna be way up any priority list.
You can climb out of the Volvo one in the new FH.
