Had one of these for 7 months now, it’s Definately the worst piece of cheap rubbish I’ve ever driven and in twenty odd years I’ve driven some scrap, absolute disgrace
I think I’d have one over a daf cf tbh.
I’d have a daf cf any day before this Merc muck

More exact details of what you find wrong with this vehicle would be welcome .
Constant vibration, noise, uncomfortable seat, no outer lockers, no room, uncomfortable bed, cheap fittings that break, seat belt cuts my neck, stupid gear lever, basically everything is wrong, it’s junk

there must be 100000001 topics of people pulling the axor to bits ,i must admit iv drove one and think they are crap, merc must have done summat right the amount on the road, alot of foreigners use them to come over here in especially the turks so they must be good for summat before i get stick i said they are crap
I think it is a good motor, a real puller if left to lug a bit and simple to drive. Needs some care with the clutch when pulling away with an empty trailer in the wet, however.
Of course, it’s no Globetrotter or whatever, but it was never meant to be.
We had Axors on a petroleum contract in scotland for petroplus, We had about 10 Axors on this job. These motors were worked 24hours 6…7 days a week. Most of the deliveries were pumping into storage tanks so the engine pto were working all the time. We never had any problems with these motors, the only fault was dipped headlight bulbs blowing weekly, I would have no problem driving one again.
Must agree mate they do look very plastic from outside, CF would be my choice anall.

That must be a Merc trait, I’ve had 3 Actros’ that did the same thing, the last being an MP4, I was changing 1 bulb or the other bulb at least once per week. But, again, it was run on day work and a night trunk 5 days per week.
Nowt wrong with the axor at all, good solid work horse, torquey engine ,loads of room for a narrow ,cab good vision wasn’t keen on the knock through gate / range change but it grew on me.

Very but very good truck , unfortunately it doesn’t have Scania or Volvo badges on the front ,only because of that the very good truck receives bad press .
Good simple working lorry, but spoiled, as are most lorries, if specced with satans auto gearbox.
Most tractable engine in 430 guise i’ve driven for years, lug right down happily to 800 rpm and pull away easily.
No use for glory boys, other glory boys not impressed.
My views on the 63 plate ones (1840, Low roof, auto box) we’ve got on loan from Tesco.
-
Auto Box - Crap. No other word. Random neutrals, changing in the wrong direction, takes way too long pick gears.
-
Seat - Not really enough room for my legs between seat and steering column (I’m 6’4"). If it’s set at the right height for my legs to be comfortable my eyes are level with the top of the windscreen, absolute ■■■■ when you’re driving into the sun and you need the visor down, feels like you’re driving a tank. Seat pad is really uncomfortable after more than a few hours driving.
-
Bed - If I get on the bed, my feet are flat against the one window and I’ve almost got my head against the other side.
-
Engine hump is quite high compared to a CF or a G series.
-
Speakers in Doors - The speaker is right where most blokes catch the door with their boot and so is normally smashed.
-
Radio - By Tacho above the windscreen, great, unless you want to plug your MP3 or such like in and then it’s dangling in front of you as there’s nowhere to put it.
-
Lights - the top marker lights on the cab shine on the top of the mirrors.
It’s a supermarket truck. It’s basic, cheap and easy to repair. Just not well thought out from a drivers perspective.

Oh, come on.
Do you really believe that the Mercedes badge is the problem?
The problem is the Axor model, which is inexplicably garbage.
Last one I drove had a very stiff 4over4 slap-across gearbox and a seat that would be better replaced by a park bench.

There built in Turkey I’m told and I’d image the price reflects that and the build quality
We had one on hire last week. We also had an Iveco, and that was brand new. Less than 100km on the clock when they dropped it off. Merc had 89k on the clock.
In best place, Merc
2nd Place. My Daf LF, has 250,000kms on it, and wasn’t mine from new.
Very firm last, Iveco. What a bag of spanners.

Agree with you about the 430 engine, that is the best puller in the range. The 460 eco engine is a load of crap and can’t pull the skin off a rice pudding even when running empty. I find the auto box to be pretty decent on them - not the best out there but it’s pretty smooth and generally changes up/down when you need it to and with little delay.
They have got a nice sound to the engine, the end
