Merc Problems?

In your vehicle’s case mike it may well be something more serious, but, are you getting M R code? & no gear selection?

Remove keys, wait 2 minutes, try again.

Raise rear suspension / SWITCH OFF ENGINE / crawl underneath gear box locate Clutch pack left hand side / on the end their R 2 plugs undo remove & refit plugs only with ENGINE OFF then try Gears !!!

Sorry I have a different opion of the workshop
in liverpool as I broke down last year, managed to drive
to the workshop after dropping off the contaikner and
trailer at the factory, After they had a good look at the
engine it was found to have a broken cam shaft, ,my
boss got them to put it together and iSAT there a weeek waiting
for a truck to come from germany to UNLOAD my container and to bring the
container back, I had excellent service, from all concerned
the lass on the desk was called susan,

Well you’re right Pete, i wasn’t really commenting on the workshop, just the unhelpful, unfriendly reception i got from the receptionist. Its not the first time its happened and she makes you feel like you are being questioned by the police or summat. She is the first point of contact and first appearances mark out how you feel. You’re also right about Sue being very helpful and friendly, i found this too. Only problem is the rather stern one is also called Sue

Not sure if this will help you or anyone else. I’m taking no blame if it goes wrong, but its handy enough to know if your stuck somewhere, this is what i done with instructions from the mech on the phone…
Run engine make sure air is fully built up. Switch right off so key is ready to be pulled out. Close all doors and make sure everything is switched off. Press in and hold the two black buttons on either side of the gearstick/lever and switch the ignition on. The ignition display will show to arrows pulsing up and down and eventually you will get a small ‘N’ in the display, start the engine then.Release the buttons and with luck the small ‘N’ will change to a big one and you’ll be reset. Its took me four goes and then it was fine.
Its in now having an inspection !!

I do not know if it is me or my big manly hands but the keys keep on snapping

We have a fleet of mercs and have gone through no end of keys snapping in the ignition and doors.

£50.00 for a key and £70.00 to have it reprogrammed nice work if you can get it!

i was just about to post about holding the two buttons in, our fitter told me its quite common the gearbox has got some sort of brain inside it and it needs a few days to get used to how you drive and use the gears then it registers it inside the ecu. But yours being an auto it should not need too iwot. mine is an 07 with the telligent box with clutch. not had any trouble with mine since the first month.

Mike-C…what are you doin  . It seems your truck is a bag of s!"£$ . Trouble from day one and jip from the dealer  Maybe you should point someone important in your local dealers to this post and watch them suddendly become interested.
It worrys me that i have the same truck with the same gearbox as you,at least i know who to ask if something goes wrong.

Mike, the mid lift axle wheel arches are prone to wearing through, most of it is caused by pressing the lift axle button whilst moving so the wheel is still spinning as it goes up and burns its way through the wheelarch plastic.I went through 2 sets before merc actually fitted them right,I even tried just lifting up the axle when I was at a complete standstill, but the holiday relief man did’nt
the tyre actually pushes the wheelarch and puts pressure on it (when its up)eventually splitting it,Merc design fault in my opinion, but they can sort it as the one’s i have now are well clear of the tyre and have been on there nearly a year now.

Your only right. It was a loaded question actually. When i was off for a week someone else had the truck, they left it exactly as they found it. The only reason i knew someone had it was because the mileage was higher!! Anyway, when i seen the mudguards i assumed that they had caught them under a trailer. After mooching about i could see the burn marks underneath and the wheel scrapes if you turn it with your foot when stationary. I getting to like it now, it should really be called a Mercedes Beta rather than an Actross. I’m sure once all the problems are ironed out its going to be a fine truck for someone

sounds more like a Mercedes Charlie to me. :unamused:

@Driveroneuk ,YES it ran from the exit to
the industry estate to BAKERLITE FACTORY
and then down to theworkshops ,where they had alook
then my boss said put it back together, and we got
the truck recovered ,it drove on to the trailer, and off at the
end of the journey,I was there 7days waiting for my mate he came solo
from germany topick me and my trailer/container up,

I’m amazed it would run with a broken cam, but there again i’ve seen cars running with amazing things, such as a crack a mile wide the full depth of the distributor cap.
